Origin of name?

Any one know the true origin of the village name? I remember seeing an old map in the Royal Oak when I was single (pre 1975!), which showed "South O'Kingdom" (and of course "North O'Kingdom" for North Ockendon).  Ronhjones  ^(Talk) 21:49, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Prefabs

'more convivial' is a very subjective view of Prefabs. They were widely seen as good quality housing when erected, and were still sought after in the late 20th century. Many around London were dismantled and re-built in Lincolnshire, for example, as late as 1990. I still know people who live in them. Maybe "conventional" might be a better word. I'm not sure if "There were prefabs along the length of Orchard Road, originally" - because when I moved there (in 1970), the length of Orchard Road was (and still is) brick built houses - the last (southern) part (around {I guess} No.100 upwards - built by GLC in 1969-71) were different as they are a conventional shape house, but made of pre formed concrete sections for the walls, with a normal pitched style roof (FWIW I was in No. 117 from new 51°30′38.18″N 0°17′33.67″E).  Ronhjones  ^(Talk) 23:49, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
