Capitalization of the word 'station'
editThe capitalization of the word station runs into a tricky situation. I believe all of the Metro Transit LRT station articles have a lowercase 'station'. Guidelines from WP:USSTATIONS say "Generally, U.S. station articles should be titled by their common name, followed by "station" if not already part of the name. In cases where the word "Station" is part of the proper name, it should be capitalized. This often occurs when the station is named after the railroad company or is a named transit center." In this case, SouthWest Transit uses capital 'Station' on their website and has used a capitlized 'Station' since before Southwest LRT discussions. The Met Council uses a capitalized 'Station' for all of the Southwest LRT articles [1]. Metro Transit seems to use capitalized 'Station' for everything. For example Snelling Avenue Station.
The lowercase 'station' seems very popular across the United States transit articles and I don't know if it is a regionalism to always capitalize 'Station' or how that works. I think further input from others would be valuable as it would be a large undertaking to capitalize all 'station' articles, if that even is the correct approach. @Bobamnertiopsis. @Central Corridor -Eóin (talk) 04:31, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- I agree that in this case it should be a capitalized "SouthWest Station" for the reasons mentioned above and since SouthWest Transit operates a few other capital "Station" transit facilities as part of their branding. I would also like to say even the use of the word "station" isn't a one size fits all answer and might be best to pursue it case-by-case. I've seen an overwhelming amount of inconsistency on whether it is a "station", "transit center", or "transit station" and how to name transfer stations, like the aforementioned Snelling Avenue, that have different names between modes.
