Notability

Recent expansion and popularity of the site shows a basis for notability imo

I'm afraid it isn't. Anything short of extensive coverage in third-party reliable sources isn't going to do it - see Wikipedia:Notability. The re-created article was almost entirely just citing the Soton Tab itself, which isn't enough. In practice, only a minority of news publications are considered notable on Wikipedia, and to be fair, the current Wessex Scene article could be questioned as well - although it has a big advantage with its age and the award from The Guradian. It is not permissible to re-create articles on Wikipedia that were removed as a result of an articles for deletion (AfD) discussion without resolving the issues raised there, so I am re-directing the article until such issues are resolved. Funnily enough, the only third-party source I have so far found which discusses the Soton Tab enough to count towards notability is the Wessex Scene, but one source is rarely enough. Rebuttal

I don't know how you respond to these things.

You've said that there is no reliable sources, however it cited articles which had appeared here on more than one occasion: http://onestowatchmedia.com/ which was cited. This website is affiliated to the Guardian, and states itself as the following:

"Ones to Watch showcases the work of the best aspiring journalists in the country and provides an easy way for students and journalists to access the best of the UK’s student media.

The OTW team monitors nearly 100 student publications every day. We select only the best news, comment, features and sports articles for publication. We feature any student journalism that demonstrates in-depth investigation, interesting interviews, original topics and/or good writing."

I believe the Soton Tab's frequent citation from this site is actually enough to prove its decent quality. I'm afraid these don't count towards notability - simply citing the Soton Tab is a "passing mention" not "significant coverage", regardless of how often it happens. And in any case, as I alluded to earlier, multiple independent third-party sources are needed. I think I should also point out that notability is distinct from fame, importance and popularity, and it does not judge quality. CT Cooper · talk 22:59, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

It isn't really discussing the Soton Tab - it's discussing something else and using the Soton Tab as a source. I think it would be helpful if we took a step back here and made clear what notability exists for. Wikipedia articles should mostly be based on third-party reliable sources about the subject - sources from the subject itself can be used, but they should not dominate. The source you've given barely counts because it doesn't discuss the Soton Tab itself, and so would be of very limited use in an article - you can write one sentence saying articles from the Soton Tab feature on that site, and that's it. At present any article on the Soton Tab would almost be entirely reliant on the Soton Tab itself, which isn't permissible.

However, the notability guidelines don't apply to content within other articles. I'm happy to discuss mentioning it elsewhere - I would tolerate a brief mention in the University of Southampton, but an entire section would be out of place there - the same could also be said with the University of Southampton Students' Union article. Since the small amount of notability the paper does have is linked to it providing competition to the Wessex Scene, a section might be appropriate in the Wessex Scene article.
