Copyright violation
I have reverted the article to the most recent version I could find that did not clearly lift text from sophie-marceau.ifrance.com.
Copying text directly from another site is a copyright violation, even if the original is in another language. Additionally, sophie-marceau.ifrance.com is not a reliable source as it is just a fansite.

Absolutely, any text that is freely available (regardless of copyright) may be translated by anyone and the copyright for the translation belongs to the translator (unless he waives his right in a contract). It would, in fact be a copyright violation if the publisher of the original text were to use the translation without permission. For example, the last three Harry Potter books were translated into German by groups of translators because of the great delay of the German publishing date. The rights to these translations are in the public domain, whereas the right to the officially translated texts (books) belong to the German publisher. TINYMARK 22:43, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- A literal translation of a copyrighted text however is still under copyright (like the original text). Literal translations of copyrighted material require a licence as well. What you can do in any case do rephrase the text in your own words and small translations (in the scope of the article) might be seen as such a legal rephrasing anyhow. --Kmhkmh (talk) 17:30, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Why bad pictures?
Article Incomplete
A few years back, major news sources reported that Marceau had been robbed, attacked and battered by thieves. She was pregnant at the time. This incident is not a scandal, a frivolity or a POV comment, but a serious matter of public record. Gallery removed
Recently the gallery was removed, with a reference to WP:Gallery. I think the gallery was a good addition to this article. I'd like to see if there is consensus to remove it. Debresser (talk) 21:05, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- WP:Gallery suggests that the use of a gallery section may be appropriate in some Wikipedia articles if a collection of images can illustrate aspects of a subject that cannot be easily or adequately described by text or individual images. The images in the gallery collectively must have encyclopedic value and add to the reader's understanding of the subject. In my view, not a lot of additional content is provided by a gallery of images of a person. Inline pictures seem the better choice. The wikilink in external links or googling pictures provides easy access to pictures of the subject.Inwind (talk) 21:40, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
trained cellist?
This is been bugging me for a while and is possibly an urban (or rather an internet) myth. Aside from the cited website (which is not a good source), I can't find any proper source mentioning her cello training/playing. She did however play a cellist in the movie "lost & found" (and may have received some (short) training for the role) and this may have led led to the (false) notion/meme of her being "classically trai8ned chellist". The latter formulation however normally implies a training by a professional treacher/music school over many years (including a degree in doubt). So if no other sources can be found, I suggest to remove the according sentence from the article.--Kmhkmh (talk) 07:06, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
