Sonic Riders 2 edit

Since Sonic Riders 2 is planned it deserves its own page. I've added a link in the article to the new game. --DavidHOzAu 06:43, 14 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Should we pull the romours out of Sonic Riders 2, especially the one about the PSP game, since that is supposed to be a port of this game, not a sequel? -- VederJuda 01:53, 20 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
No, we'd just have to remake the new article when it gets released anyway. If you want to talk about this, do it at the right place. --DavidHOzAu 01:59, 20 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Sonic Riders 2 article is now toast, since there is no real information on it, other than the statement by the producer. -- VederJuda 19:53, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think we should wait till we have more information about the game.

I heard that if its made, Silver will be a player, and though the producers are still deciding to make it, its working title is Sonic Riders 2:Gear of Darkness, and it is about a legendary board that turns it's rider into an evil berserker.--71.176.163.119 00:19, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Where'd you hear that? ~Crowstar~ 14:42, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Japanese voiceover inclusion? edit

Should a quick article be made on which versions of Sonic Riders include Japanese voiceover options? I remember Shadow the Hedgehog was pretty confusing with that. In that game, it was something like:

Xbox: Japanese voiceover included in US, but have to adjust system settings (not sure for EU)
PS2: Japanese voiceover available only in Japanese, and US versions.
Gamecube: Japanese voice only in Japanese version. US and EU versions only have English voiceover

Believe it or not, a lot of people do actually base their voices on if it contains Japanese voices or not...--Sera404 23:16, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

PSP rumour edit

I put the PSP rumour back on this page because the rumour is for a port of this game to appear on the PSP, not Sonic Riders 2; therefore it belongs here, not there. -- VederJuda 23:10, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have also put the Nintendo Revolution rumour back now that the Sonic Riders 2 page is gone. I would also like to get a consensus on what rumours belong and don't belong here. In my opinion, the only rumours that are valid are those with verifyable and respectable sources, and are not fan speculation; this would also exclude extra "info" that are tacked onto sourced rumours which itself isn't sourced--i.e. speculation that the next-gen game is a remake of Sonic Riders as opposed to a sequel, when the source specifically uses the word "sequel". -- VederJuda 19:57, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was wondering about that. The 'sources' of the rumor of a remake on next-gen consoles, is invalid. It's a rumor about a sequel, not a remake. The rumor of a PSP port of Sonic Riders is still valid, though. --Ultimate 15:37, 5 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Propose merger of Babylon Guardian into this article edit

Babylon Guardian is a two-paragraph article about a character in this video game. Propose merger of that article into this one. Kevyn 02:25, 3 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why was that article created in the first place?! Those kids are always getting too exicted!
When I soon get this game, I will clean up this article!
>x<ino 02:39, 3 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps we should just delete it. It's already in Minor characters in Sonic the Hedgehog. If nothing else, at least move the info there to the profile in the Minor Sonic Characters page, and then delete the other one. --Ultimate 15:33, 5 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Excellent idea. I've marked the article for merger there. Thanks for the suggestion, and letting me know about the Minor Sonic Characters page! Kevyn 14:28, 18 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
What about nominating it on AfD and seeing what the community consensus is? --TBC ??? ??? ??? 02:28, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Nah, I'm OK with merging it into the Minor Sonic Characters page. I've made that recommendaton. Kevyn 14:28, 18 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Difficulty Section edit

Doesn't it seem kind of biast? It may be difficult to some people, but not all, and it isn't very encyclopidic.

You're right, difficulty does differ from person to person. However, the difficulty has been a main complaint in reviews from such sources as Gamespot and IGN. Perhaps we rename the section from Difficulty to Criticism, and add cites from the above mentioned websites? --TBC ??? ??? ??? 10:27, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I edited it quite a bit now. Hopefully this will make it seem less opinonated. Knuckles sonic8 20:48, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, nice job Knuckles--TBC ??? ??? ??? 02:26, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks! Knuckles sonic8 02:30, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unlockables edit

Technically, listing the unlockables IS encyclopedic information. Listing how to get them, however, is when you start to cross into Gamefaqs territory, I think. I think they should be put back. BlazeHedgehog 07:08, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Extreme Gear Chart edit

I believe, if I'm not mistaken, someone removed the Extreme Gear charts. This has been in the progress of being updated constantly, I should know because I've updated it quite a number of times. And now, someone has removed it! Can anyone bring it back?

I've dug through hundreds of edits to get the most recent version of this chart back. --"God above all; Truth above all else" — Master Imrahil 00:01, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

NIGHTS edit

Can NIGHTS talk because he does not say anything through out the game.

In a word, no. Knuckles sonic8 19:37, 29 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rude Misinterpretation edit

I edited the "Notes" section recently as this is what it was like before:

"Jet the Hawk, Wave the Swallow, and Storm the Albatross, all new , are members of a new organization of thieves and gays known as the Babyboy Rogues and are led by Doctor Eggman...."

Good thing I spotted this remark. Obviously, the messing around on this page seems to be continuing...

Controversy edit

Who deleted the criticism and controversy sections? And why? (Plainnym 17:14, 22 May 2006 (UTC))Reply

  • Fanboyism; no doubt about it. --Dabigkid 19:57, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sonic Riders part of the main "Sonic" story? edit

Is this game considered a continuation of the Sonic Adventure/Heroes/Shadow line? More to the point, shouldn't this be in the spin-off section with the other Sonic racing games? (Morningblur 16:13, 27 June 2006 (UTC))Reply

Its in fact not apart of the official story. Its just a side game for others who just wanna race with sonic and pals. Also just to introduce the three new characters Jet, Wave, and Storm. It was a pretty good idea i guess.

No. KatariG4 6:56, 27 June 2006

Yes I believe it is, there is nothing saying that it isn't. MindWraith 09:22, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

It happened in the main storyline like the other games and it is Sonic adventure 3

Sonic Riders Track jumps edit

There are 3 types of jumps through out the whole game. Horizontal - angled /except lower and then / these almost vertical. the key to getting on "2nd lvls" is holding X (ps2) until you reach the part closest to the end. Or what I the first or top arrow practice this on Metal City it works.

Character Music Alterations? edit

I saw this in the Music Trivia section:

"If you play as NiGHTS or AiAi on the Metal City track, the music will change. It is unknown if Ulala changes music on tracks as well"

I don't believe this is true. Can we remove it?Knuckles sonic8 01:51, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Gear Exchange in Dark World edit

I always thought the black market shop in sonic adventure was in the dark world. It is written here that this is a reference to the dark chao garden in SA2 however I think it is a reference to sonic adventure. User:RossyMiles 09:46, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Game storyline edit

This was added to the article:

"Despite Shadow's presence as a bonus character, Sonic Riders appears to be set before Sonic Adventure 2. In the intro movie for Hero Story, Jet is sillouetted against the full moon, despite half of it having been destroyed in Sonic Adventure 2."

In Sonic Adventure 2 the moon was destoryed but in every following game it is shown intact. There have been many theroies about this, my favourite is that the moon was restored by chaos energies in Sonic Advance (The game that directly follows SA2).

I just would like to put a reason for removing this paragraph form the article. ROSSYMILES (ロシマイルス) TALK 12:42, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sonic Riders clearly takes place AFTER Sonic Adventure 2. I mean, Cream's, Rouge's, Shadow's presence in Sonic Riders just justify's it's after Sonic Adventure 2. And, the moon thing, it dosen't matter. And besides, it's just speculation. UnDeRsCoRe 20:55, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Would also like to point out that the moon was full in Shadow the Hedgehog's opening movie, and I read in the New Yorker that since the moon is held together by its own gravity, it will make itself spherical no matter what you do to it. If I could remember the issue, I'd site it, but as is, it's just a little food for thought. DackAttac 22:28 (EST) It does take place before Sonic heroes

Riders 2 Spam edit

Public Address: Please stop adding false information about Sonic Riders 2. It is getting very wearisome. Please also stop adding characters that could potentially be in it! This has happened so many times not just on this article; I'm getting to the point where I'm really getting tired of seeing these speculations everywhere and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Knuckles sonic8 23:05, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

This also goes to anyone adding the Wii to the list of systems getting "Sonic Riders 2", becuase the Eurogamer article only mentions the PS3 and Xbox360; the Wii was mentioned elsewhere and did not specify a sequel. -- VederJuda 19:33, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bad information for character classes edit

Whoever put in the information as to what the character classes can do is highly misinformed. It wasn't mentioned that speed types can grind on rails. Power types have NO reduction on jump height (which only depends on your amount of air and how long the jump has been charged). Fly types have no specific button that allows them to fly, and it wasn't mentioned that they do not fly forward unless using the accelerator rings, and not at all if they do not fly through at least one ring. This kind of bad information needed to be corrected by a player who knows the game. It has been corrected. -(anonymous user)

Speed types can grind on rails, but the rest of that was false. -anonymous user —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.80.0.79 (talk) 02:21, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sonic Riders Script edit

Is it me or does the script for sonic riders sound just as corny and similar to the script for Sonic X. Do you think 4 Kids had a say in this games script. This games dialogue just isn't what I'd expect from Sonic Team. Or maybe it is just because This game was handled by United Game Artists. I don't know how UGA writes their script.--S200048 22:40, 26 April 2007 (UTC)s200048Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Sorip2011.jpg edit

Image:Sorip2011.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Tom Kenny? edit

The trivia said something about how Tom Kenny was an actor in this game, and said that IMDB states so. IMDB has gotten things wrong (like saying Ryan Drummond and David Humphrey were in Shadow the Hedgehog, which was false), and the credits do not say so. Unless somebody can find an official source for this, I'm deleting it. Shadoman 00:51, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

This article was almost empty when I first looked at it! There was no section on plot or gameplay, it just skipped down to reception. I wrote an incomplete plot summary, and I need someone to edit it for me. Much more information on the Babylon Rogues is needed and (if possible) a plot synopsis for their storyline. All my concerns are addressed below - I am happy to pass this review! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 15:17, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria

  1. Is it well written?
    A. The prose is clear and concise, and the spelling and grammar are correct:
I definitely think that a couple spots may need grammar fixing. I'll note this in my comments!
    B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:
No concerns; lead section looks great!
  2. Is it verifiable with no original research?
    A. It contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline:
    B. Reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose):
Overall looks great; but shouldn't the characters need a source for their presence in the video game?
    C. It contains no original research:
Several references didn't verify content provided. Noted below!
    D. It contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:
No copyright violations; nothing according to Earwig's Copyvio Detector!
  3. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. It addresses the main aspects of the topic:
    B. It stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style):
  4. Is it neutral?
It represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each:
  5. Is it stable?
It does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute:
    No concerns!
  6. Is it illustrated, if possible, by images?
    A. Images are tagged with their copyright status, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content:
Both images are non-free, but qualify as fair use!
    B. Images are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions:
No concerns about captions; though why not add alt text?
  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:

Comments edit

Sources cited inline edit

  • "Players can also collect rings scattered across the track; collecting a certain number of rings will cause their character to level up for the remainder of the race, increasing the strength of their abilities and extending their maximum air capacity." – I don't see a provided source for this.
  • "the remainder are unlocked through progression in the game's story mode and by winning Gold in both the World Grand Prix tournaments, in which players race through five consecutive tracks and attempt to get the highest overall score." – no source here, either!
  • Shouldn't the characters that appear in the video game need a source?

Prose edit

  • "intersect with one another: The "Heroes" story, focusing on Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles" – shouldn't "the" be not capitalized following the colon? Additionally, why not change "focusing" to "focused"?
  • "and the "Babylon" story, focusing on the Babylon Rogues, consisting of new characters" – try "and the "Babylon" story, focused on the Babylon Rogues and includes new characters".
  • "received many requests from fans for another Sonic racer" – how about "many" to "numerous"?
  • "never officially greenlit" – I'd use another word to better describe "greenlit".

That's all I have for now; I'll resume spotchecks soon, and possibly more prose fixes if I missed any. Thanks! (Courtesy ping Shadowboxer2005!) :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 03:31, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sources
  • I couldn't find anything relating to upgrades in-race from collecting rings, but I did find them referencing purchasing equipment with them, so I changed it to reference that.
  • Couldn't find references for the winning Gold part, removed.
  • While I could potentially find all the characters through enough reference digging, it'll probably be very annoying to do so, so I've expunged the section.
Prose
  • 1/2/3 all requests done
  • 4 changed to "picked up?.
Shadowboxer2005 (talk) 03:44, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I rephrased #2 since it sounded a little clunky, and tracked down sources for ring upgrades and World GP. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 04:08, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

After doing some digging, I managed to find references from reliable sites for every character, and have re-added the section accordingly. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 23:44, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Alright, Shadowboxer2005, I think you've addressed most of my prose concerns! My remaining concern is that the re-wording to "picked up" – I think there still could be a better phrase/term to describe it, and to clarify how he never "picked up" on it. Otherwise, I'm still working on the source review and spotchecks; this'll be complete in the next several hours or so (I'm slightly busy at the moment). :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 17:31, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Changed it to "Sega never responded and cut-off all communications with the studio after Heroes' release." Shadowboxer2005 (talk) 20:40, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
That sounds better, thanks! ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 01:59, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Spotchecks edit

Some commentary below:

Gameplay:

  • "consisting of hover boards, hover skates, and hover bikes" – the Kidzworld reference doesn't verify the skates and bikes that appear in the game, though it does state that there are skateboards in the game.
  • "which will give them a sudden burst of speed at the cost of a significant amount of air" – the 1UP reference doesn't verify the significant air loss, though it does verify the speed boost!
  • "If a player boosts into an opponent, their character will attack and stun the opponent for a brief period" – reference 9 does verify the character attacking, though it doesn't mention how it stuns the opponent for a brief period.
  • "Only five tracks are accessible from the start" – reference 8 doesn't mention this.

Otherwise, I have no other concerns! Placing this on hold for now. (Courtesy ping Shadowboxer2005!) :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 01:59, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • Removed references to skates and bikes (and removed the space between "hover" and "boards") as well as added IGN's reference
  • Nintendo World Report's review mentions using up air, so I moved 1UP's reference towards the end as per standard
  • Couldn't find any review mentioning stunning the player, so I just removed it altogether since otherwise it wouldn't explain what attacking does.
  • Replaced "five" with "a few" as IGN's review mentions unlocking stages
Shadowboxer2005 (talk) 02:29, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Almost good to go! I do, however, believe there is a possibility that there is a source for the character attacking and stunning an opponent for a brief period, and even the skates and bikes being used in the game. Pinging Cyberlink420 for this since they did track down references to use for unsourced statements above! ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 03:12, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Found an IGN hands-on that verifies the skates and bikes, as well as using attacks to "cast aside the other racer" (which I phrased as "slow them down", though I do wonder if that's the best word; "overtake them" might be closer to IGN's intended meaning and more accurate to what actually happens). EDIT: Switching it to overtake; it's more accurate and fits with IGN's description. --Cyberlink420 (talk) 03:58, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your input, Cyberlink420! I feel comfortable to pass this review now. Good work, Cyberlink420 and Shadowboxer2005! :) ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 15:04, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
