Correct citation of Prost 1956

The spelling of the title and the name of the series were in error. An image of the cover of the book is available here: http://www.choosit.org/cgi-bin/choosit3/choosit_ac.cgi?user=UJELLAA&nla=1&cart_id=&ref=1392&sousref=1392. 'Sonay' was not 'soŋey'. The 'n' had a diacritic, a dot above, to indicate its pronunciation is the velar nasal and not the dental nasal. When you search for this work in electronic databases, it will be spelled with 'n'. As for the name of the institute which published the book, *in the year of publication* it was "Institut français ...", not "Institut fondamental ...". Therefore, this is the only correct citation. I have added an internal link to the article for this institution, IFAN. The name change is discussed at the top of that article. Hurmata (talk) 10:12, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Re comparisons

  It's pretty shabby to be reckless in usage of "between" and "among" re comparisons, and especially so in linguistic contexts. While it's beyond my competence to sort it out, it would be especially bad in light of the issue of whether comparisons among 3 or more languages are meaningful/appropriate/practical. At least be crystal clear that "between" is one kind of comparison or interaction, while "among" is a different kind. Even where non-countable infinitude can beruled out, the fundamental distinction is crucial.

Ethnic groups

The following paragraph seems slightly off to me:

Historically, the name Songhay was neither an ethnic nor a linguistic designation, but a name for the ruling caste of the Songhai Empire. Under the influence of French language usage, speakers in Mali have increasingly been adopting it as an ethnic self-designation;[6] however, other Songhay-speaking groups identify themselves with other ethnic terms, such as Zarma (Djerma) or Isawaghen (Sawaq).

This may be true for Mali. Here in Niger, the vast majority of speakers identify themselves either as ethnically Songhay (Tera, Tillabery), ethnically Zarma (Ouallam, Dosso) or ethnically Dendi (Gaya). The Zarma have traditions of being an immigrant group that migrated to Songhay-speaking areas beginning in the 15th century. The Songhay identify as descendants of the Songhay Empire. People are quite clear on the distinction. I'm not sure how to tweak this paragraph to make it more accurate. References would be helpful. --seberle (talk) 08:12, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
