I like the link; it tells you something about the club - by not telling you anything. Let's keep it.

some background

Since the following would constitute original research I won't include it in the article but I would love to see someone with better skills than I expand the article to include, after verification, some of the following information.

First after an initial search of the internet I found several general interest articles about elite social clubs and found the Somerset Club listed in nearly all. It is variously described in these articles as private or exclusive, stodgy, old fashioned etc. Some either state that it is or was exclusive to white W.A.S.P. conservative business elite and is highly secretive.

Next I delved deeper and found posted photographs and blogs and comments on various websites from people who claim to have been there. If even ten percent of what I found is true than it seems that a large part of what the Somerset Club is all about is hosting various events, dinners, conferences for other organizations who either don't have their own meeting halls or are in town visiting and need a place to hold their event. Presumably this is done at the behest of members. I also found numerous mentions of weddings being held at the Somerset Club. In addition to these activities being mentioned, there were numerous photos alleged to have been taken inside showing presumed members. If they were exclusive with regard to demographics once upon a time, they seem not to be now. Based on the photos I found posted, race does not appear to be a barrier to membership, neither would it seem gender or religion. Though there seems to be a dress code of some sort as every person in such photos is well dressed, often in black tie. I would surmise based on all of the above that currently the club functions as social club and meeting place of the business elite of Boston without any respect to background though there may still be non business related eligibility requirements. I have walked past their building on a number of occasions without a thought to what went on inside and contrary to what many internet articles claim, I have never seen anyone standing guard outside. As for it being secretive, for a secretive club, it has a lot of members and visitors posting photos of the inside and it's events on various social media web sites. It's membership has changed somewhat, but the reserve and lack of interest in publicity (for the club) remain.

Note: most clubs provide facilities for public events staged by their members; it is one of the chief reasons they exist. Also, 'white W.A.S.P. Elite' is repetitive - 'white' is what the W stands for. 12.201.7.201 (talk) 04:33, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
