Ruby lasers edit

What is needed here is some information on ruby lasers that emit continuously
Such things are not possible at room temperature, but if the (synthetic) ruby is cooled to cryogenic temperatures (perhaps with liquid argon) then continuous operation is possible. These were made back during the 1960s, and that is all I know about them offhand.
Of course, ruby lasers at room temperature emit pulses of light, only. This is because these lasers have just three energy levels in their quantum schemes. For continuous operation, you need at least four energy levels.98.67.108.241 (talk) 18:33, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Continuous-emitting ruby lasers are mentioned in the article Ruby laser. Note that they don't emit continuous wave, but rather emit a continuous chain of pulses.--Srleffler (talk) 01:06, 2 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Graphene mode-locking section too detailed edit

The amount of information about graphene modelocking is disproportionate compared to its importance. It is an area of active research. The more traditional methods of modelocking, such as SESAMs or the ones used in Ti:Sapphire lasers are commercialized and well known, and should be discussed in greater depth in an encyclopedic article. I am modifying this article to reflect this to some extent, but I don't want to shorten or remove the section on graphene unless there is a consensus. Agreed. Both disproportionate and misleading, in that the first paragraph claimed graphene is "widely used", but the references and the second paragraph made it clear that it's a newly developed technology, yet to be widely deployed (at least as of 2009).--Srleffler (talk) 05:57, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
