Point to Solar Eclipse page? Move cycles therein

edit

Perhaps this article would better serve our readers by sticking to the subject, only the 3Nov13 eclipse. Could the sections on the different cycles be merged with the generic Solar Eclipse Page? Without an introduction or warning, wham! here's the semester, saros, and metonic series. That explains confusion expressed in the reader feedback entries. There is the Solar Saros 143 article which would benefit from the illustrations herein, although each entry in the table has a link to a graphic at NASA. Perhaps the entire series of articles on Solar Eclipsen could be organized by a top-level page containing generic introductions for the casual observer, with increasing levels of details organized from K12 through graduate astronomy, so a high school student who wants an introduction to eclipses isn't overwhelmed by graduate-level details that assume the prerequisite math and physics courses? Why do those cycles exist? How are they calculated? Perhaps accompanied by 3D illustrations of the orbital variations for each cycle? An animation of each cycle would help to explain why they exist. Just a thought, this article raises more questions than answers, except for the first section on this particular eclipse. Hpfeil (talk) 15:58, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

The REAL problem is the event details needs to be fleshed out further, so the related eclipses dominate the article contents now. The related eclipses fit within each event article since each eclipse event fits within a cycle sequence of eclipses, which is nice to show (and otherwise hard to notice), but again, is more dominant in the article than it should be. Some navigator tables have "expand" buttons so they don't take so much space, and that might help reduce the related eclipse section lengths unless they are expanded. SockPuppetForTomruen (talk)
