Native Socotri language name
editthe socotri name of this island is Saqatri (Socotri: ساقطري) but instead the name given is the name of the island in socotri arabic (not the socotri language itself). Abo Yemen✉ 07:09, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
Blue Baboon Tarantula
editThis endemic spider is the only tarantula species living in communities (Wiki of the spider: A unique behavior of this tarantula is that it is communal, to the point that mother spiders care for the young, even attacking potential predators if they get too close to her egg sac.)

flag
edit@DeCausa why do you say that this source is not reliable? Abo Yemen✉ 19:41, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
- Essentially anyone can post info to it including non-experts (It even cites Wikipedia!). See WP:USERGENERATED. It has been discussed at WP:Reliable sources/Noticeboard and consensus is it is not WP:RS. Last discussion is here. DeCausa (talk) 19:58, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
- I didn't know that anyone can post anything on that site. BUT, all of the flags posted there seems to be accurate and some flags like the Qu'aiti flag and the sultan's standard is the same one that is shown in the Mukalla Museum (formerly Quaiti sultan's palace). Anyways thanks for pointing that out. Abo Yemen✉ 06:40, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

UAE supported militants and takeover
edit@Chipmunkdavis This article is about the geographic location and not the political/administrative Socotra. The UAE invasion of socotra is given much more weight in the article compared to other- more significant-invasions of socotra by the british, the Portuguese, the ethiopians, and other entities even though the UAE control lasted for less than a month. I say that we should not include the UAE backed STC militants in the lede as it is not important and is barely mentioned in the main article and we also should either shorten the UAE invasion section, which is an easy thing to do, or expand the history section to add more details of socotra under the rules of the british, portuguese, mehris, south yemen, and the modern-day unified Yemen. Abo Yemen✉ 10:36, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- The article is about both, it is for example using the Governate infobox. I would agree the UAE article section should be mostly shifted to the main History page, but that does not mean removing mention of governance from the lead, which has the current situation. The lead should also be expanded with more information from other sections. CMD (talk) 10:50, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- If it is going to stay then we have to include that the STC is a part of the PLC which is the internationally recognized government of Yemen Abo Yemen✉ 10:56, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Might be worth an aside to contextualise the claim of separatism. In general that and more should be covered in the article, where only the districts are covered (and even then, not in any detail). CMD (talk) 12:01, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
