Coverage

Sky have 99% coverage in the UK, compared to 75% coverage from freeview (29% of that requiring an arieal upgrade) and 50% coverage from cable. Any suggestions where I could put this in? --Hamdev Guru 11:36, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

I think there should be a criticism of sky digital's inability to broadcast in poor weather conditions. Quite a major concern given the weather in Britain and also the fact that terrestrial signals in use for well over 40 years do not suffer nearly so much in this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.218.198.201 (talk) 18:56, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

EPG Shuffle

The EPG is being reshuffled at the end of November 2005. I'd be happy to change the channel numbers, anyone else want to join in? Sceptre 23:11, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Yeah I'd be more than happy to help Grovers 14:23, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

EPG Shuffle Update

I have information that tells me that the EPG re-shuffle will now not take place until after January 16, 2006 Source: "Sky Digi Online". Grovers 13:37, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

EPG

I listified the EPG, much like on the Foxtel page. I tried to add as many links as possible, but your pay tv offerings are much more varied than ours in Australia! If I missed some channels, sorry. I'll keep fixing small errors as I spot them.

--Sclozza 05:26, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Just remember about half of the channels on the EPG are free-to-air or free-to-view, not paytv. I've done a bit of reformatting and linked to a few more channels - loads of channels have articles that you wouldn't expect to have seperate ones. --Kiand 13:12, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

Reshuffle

The reshuffle takes place on or near February 28th [1] Sceptre (Talk) 19:22, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Shuffle tonight.

Please go around any articles changing the numbers of the stations.

I've done most of the channels now. If anyone spots any i've missed, could you update it please. Cheers, AntzUK   00:06, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

ITV1 London

Does channel 993 carry ITV1 London in all regions? In my region 103 is ITV1 Meridian and 993 is ITV1 London, but I was under the impression that subscribers in other regions received different "alternative" ITV1 regions on 993. Lee M 11:37, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it is ITV1 London in all regions (due to Audio Description being on ITV1 London only). --AntzUK 11:51, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Channel 103: ITV1/STV/UTV

There was a debate in the Freeview talk page about how channel 3 should be worded as. We agreed upon ITV1/STV/UTV with a footnote offering a brief explaination of the different ITV franchises. The Sky Digital article does not have this. Would it be valid to include the aforementioned details for channel 103 in the article? --tgheretford (talk) 19:24, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

EPG Regionalisation

Due to either limited regional availability of certain channels, or conditions relating to their must-carry status, Sky operate four regional variations of their EPG for domestic customers. The four different EPGs transmitted are: Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England/Scotland

Surely there are different regional versions for England and Scotland and differences between English regions too (even if the only variation is which versions of BBC1, 2 and ITV1 appear on channels 101-103)

Article name

Should the title of this article be Sky Digital (UK & Ireland)? Sky Digital is a service offered to both the UK AND Republic of Ireland. --Achmelvic 21:58, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Table instead of list?

Would anyone else prefer a table instead of the list format? Like this:

# Channel IE channel SCO channel WAL channel FTA
101 BBC One RTÉ One (not FTA) Yes
102 ... ... ... ... ...

But obviously dropping the variation channels in sections where they aren't needed (e.g. drop Wales and Scotland in sport. And drop them all in everything but Entertainment. Anyone else think it would look tidier? Or just a table in general would look better? - Рэдхот 15:59, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Agree, though I could think of a few changes. I wouldn't have a column per geographical area though (take a look at the Digital terrestrial television in the United Kingdom article as an example of how they tackled it). I would expand the FTA column to a number of columns, which show what packages can receive that channel.
For example:
EPG Number Channel Name Notes Free-to-air Free-to-view Subscription Package Pay-per-view
502 Bloomberg Television No No News and Events Mix No
If I can think of some more suggestions, I'll note them down. --tgheretford (talk) 16:35, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
My quick preview of how the table will look on the page:
EPG No. Channel Name Notes Broadcast hours Free-to-air Free-to-view Subscription Package Pay-per-view HD
101 BBC One United Kingdom 24 hours Yes No No No No
RTÉ One Republic of Ireland 24 hours No No Variety Mix No No
102 BBC Two United Kingdom 24 hours Yes No No No No
RTÉ Two Republic of Ireland 24 hours No No Variety Mix No No
103 ITV1 England, southern Scotland and Wales 24 hours Yes No No No No
STV Central and northern Scotland 24 hours Yes No No No No
UTV Northern Ireland 24 hours Yes No No No No
TV3 Ireland Republic of Ireland 24 hours No No Variety Mix No No
104 Channel 4 England, Scotland and Northern Ireland 24 hours No Yes No No No
S4C Digidol Wales 24 hours Yes No No No No
TG4 Republic of Ireland 24 hours No No Variety Mix No No
105 Five Not available in the Republic of Ireland 24 hours No Yes No No No
106 Sky One 24 hours No No Variety Mix No No
107 Sky Two 24 hours No No Variety Mix No No
108 Sky Three 24 hours No Yes No No No
Any suggestions, support or opposition to using a table in the article? --tgheretford (talk) 13:56, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Support a table looks more tidy than a list Kingjamie 12:17, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Just thought, the radio one would need to be slightly different, considering genres are not grouped together as they are with the TV stations:
EPG No. Channel Name Notes Broadcast hours Genre
0101 BBC Radio 1 Not available in the Republic of Ireland 24 hours Popular Music
--tgheretford (talk) 14:28, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

I'll start doing it now, as there are no objections --tgheretford (talk) 09:46, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Sky Digital name change?

Is Sky's digital TV service even called Sky Digital now? Watching the adverts they seem to refer to it as Sky TV and I can't find the name 'Sky Digital' anywhere on the website. What's everyone else's opinion on this? --AntL talk 12:12, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Even Lyngsat now call it only "Sky UK". "Sky Digital" was most probably designed when analogue sattelite tv was still the most common and hasn`t really been used for a very long time now. The name should be changed to "Sky UK". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.234.163.130 (talk) 00:17, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Skylogo2004.jpg

Image:Skylogo2004.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Music

What is the name of the music associated with the EPG LOTRrules (talk) 21:49, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Try using the track ID feature in a sony ericsson walkman phone. I would do it for you but i don't know which track on the EPG you want, there are many. Hope i've helped AceLink™ (talk) 22:16, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

confusion over this page: broadcasting service, or Sky channels

It seems to me as though there is some confusion on what exactly this page is for.

From my understanding, Sky Digital is the broadcasting service - which includes the necessary hardware (digibox, mini-dish and viewing card - but NOT the actual subscription), for the purpose of viewing the whole plethora of TV and radio channels which are available from the different content providers (BBC, ITV, Ch4, five, Sky, UKTV, and all the other smaller independent content providers).

The actual Sky channels (Sky One, Sky Two, Sky News, Sky Movies, Sky Sports, Sky Travel, Sky Arts, etc) are provided by the company British Sky Broadcasting. These are then packaged together with channels from other broadcasters (BBC, ITV, UKTV, etc), purchased by another separate Sky company called Sky Subscribers Services Limited (SSSL), who then sell these packages onto the end-user, and are watched on the Sky Digital (DVB-S) service. Some of these channels are also made available on the digital terrestrial Freeview (DVB-T) service. Furthermore, one of the "Sky companies" also part-owns the Freeview service!!!

There seems to be many different, "legally separate" Sky companies, each with a unique company registration number.

I just think a little more clarity and definition of this page needs to be sought. Rgds -- Teutonic Tamer 09:43, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Sky Digital (UK & Ireland)Sky (UK & Ireland) — Something I've been pondering for ages, but, since analogue Sky stopped in 2001, and with Sky today being only refereed to as just 'Sky', and as per WP:COMMONNAME, would it be appropriate to rename the article.  [[ axg ◉ talk ]] 19:45, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
