Date of death is unknown. Chapman was on board the schooner Favourite, which was last sighted off Cape Howe on 17 May 1852.[1][2] The date given by "The Peerage" of 17 May 1853 is clearly incorrect. 17 May 1852 is the last date on which there is evidence that he was alive.
