Talk:Sir John Thursby, 1st Baronet

This is quite good, I only have a few complaints...

edit

Atchom, Thanks for creating this article, I love a bit of Burnley history. I'm not sure if you've 'finished' it yet, if so I might add to it myself. However I can see a couple of problems, both cited to the Telegraph source. Simple one first: Paddy the racehorse did what at Epsom? Secondly there is a conflict with Thursby baronets regarding the donation of the land for the Victoria Hospital. Bennett in the History of Burnley, says that the Rev. Thursby donated the land (once sufficient money had been raised) and Sir John laid the foundation stone on 24th May 1884. The Rev. apparently died 10th Oct 1884, [1] so I'm inclined to believe Bennett. Thanks again for your efforts so far.TiB chat 18:37, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! The article is mostly based on a very fulsome Telegraph obituary. They are generally reliable but they do get things wrong from time to time - I spotted the hospital point as well and welcome better contemporaneous sourcing on the point. And I've added the missing word on Epsom. Atchom (talk) 21:10, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Probably just as well to add that I am not a Burnley or Lancashire local history expert by any means. I just find these minor Victorian figures endlessly fascinating! Atchom (talk) 21:11, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
