Talk:Single-use bioreactor

I'll be creating an expansion/edit of this article. Intended improvements;

1) Definition is very short and vague- example, "a disposable bag instead of a culture vessel.", culture vessel is ill defined, the distinction between glass/steel and plastics needs to be discussed.

2) Technology section need to be expanded/reorganized- example, disposable vessels are not just for mammalian cells an there are many film configurations. Certification or materials test data needs to be a new or sub-section.

3) "Measurement and Control" section is incorrect on several counts; there are several disposable bioreactors that use traditional pH and dissolved oxygen probes- in fact, the vendors named on this page manufacture those very biorector vessels. The "new types" pf probes mentioned are an reference to optical probes, only a small number of which are in the configuration discussed (many probes are created by installing optically reactive material directly on the disposable surface, and they do not change color but rely on a an algorithm whose input is timing of wave peaks, called phase shift).

4) The "Single Use Process" section violates the conflict of interest policy. There are many vendors for disposable bioreactors- if they are to be named, they should be in a section at the end of the article (as is typically done for software, cars etc) and the list should be complete and easily edited by those wishing to add their company.

5) The "Advantages" section will be removed- it has no place in a neutral article, parts will be used in other sections where differences in operation are discussed. The other sections must be referenced otherwise the comments are just speculation or opinion.

6) The "Environmental" section also needs references, and should be a minor section as the topic is trivial to the main topic.

Generally the article will also flow from introductory (for the inexperienced audience) to technical (for advanced scientists). Links will also be made to appropriate statistical, mechanical and other related wiki entries. Drafts to be found on my "user" page (soon).

This article should not be specifically about bioreactors edit

Single-use technologies can be found throughout the whole biopharmaceutical manufacturing process- not just in bioreactors. The whole article should be restructured and provide a summary of single-use bioprocessing- not just single-use bioreactors. Especially since single-use bioreactors are often utilized as part of the whole single-use ecosystem. Ned n07b07 (talk) 05:24, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
