Talk:SimCity 3000
SC3k was originally planned to be 3D
editThis article certainly misses out the fact that the game's original concept was to be in full 3D (at about the level of Streets of SimCity and SimCopter) with plenty of detailed micromanagement, until EA acquired Maxis and started over [1][2]. ╫ 25 ring-a-ding 08:27, 30 October 2005 (UTC) ╫
- That original SC3K was also the one that ran on BeOS and hence never got released... *sniff* --Kiand 03:26, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
- Added the section. Waited way too long to expect someone else to do this. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 16:06, 13 October 2006 (UTC) ╫

In-game screenshot featuring WTC should be deleted/replaced with another
editI feel that the in-game screenshot that features the World Trade Center should be deleted and replaced with an image that does not contain it, since the WTC is a highly sensitive issue. I understand that the screenshot is used in the discussion to demonstrate the gameplay, however I feel that the image as it is may not be keeping in with a NPOV, since some people may become upset by it. Surely, having the WTC in the screenshot is not necessary to illustrate the play of the game. I feel that the image should be replaced with a similar in-game screenshot, but without the WTC. Stovetopcookies 18:05, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- My justifications have been included in the editor's talk page, and reinforced by WP:NOT#CENSOR. The towers are included (as it has when the image was added) for the purpose of illustrating the tower's availability and presence in-game, and are relevant to the context. The game (including the towers) was also released two years prior to 9/11 (the illustrated city itself is last updated months before be the attack), and as such are not intended initially to be related to the attacks. Once again, I voice my apologies for any offense cause, but the image is not intended to be illustrated in a manner than would upset anyone and the decision to keep the image remains for the purpose of informing and illustrating of a game to its fullest potential. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 20:27, 16 November 2006 (UTC) ╫
- Honestly, it's an image of a landmark building in a computer game, and it's not like you can fly a plane into it in the game or anything of any sensitive nature, justification not warranted. Nick carson (talk) 23:50, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Not important, but how about a list of the crazy headlines?
editThis is not important at all, but maybe it'd be cool to have a list of the headlines in simcity, or link to a page that has them. Up to you guys if you want to do it; i'm just posing the idea. I have some saved:
Pistol Packing Punks Pilfer Precious Petunias
Cross-eyed python found to be running succesful chain of all-night laundromats.
Four in five Santa Andrea Children Won't Eat Mono-Colored Cereals.
Local Mustard Magnate Marries Daughter of Dill Pickle Mogul

- The existing explanation and few examples in the article should be enough, although adding an external link containing a complete list of new ticker headlines may not hurt. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 15:47, 11 February 2007 (UTC) ╫
SimCity DS on it's own page?
editI feel that the DS version of SimCity should get it's own page. Even though the game is based on SC3000 I think there are more than enough new things to it. Furthermore, the SC3000 page doesn't have any significant information on SCDS. Also, the DS version of Theme Park has it's own page, so why not SCDS :)? -Jort227 13:00, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- It's more feasible to allow other editors to include more info about SimCity DS in here, until the mention of the game is large enough to have its own section, and then its own article when it becomes even larger. The Super Mario Bros. article, for example, lists different editions of Super Mario Bros. that either have their own section or article, depending on how much can be discussed on their differences. Btw, I would actually endorse a merge of Theme Park DS with Theme Park (computer game), if the article cannot be expanded beyond the mention of a few new features. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 14:21, 25 March 2007 (UTC) ╫
SimCity3000 UK and World Editions
editWhy havent these got a mention, it is the only version that can still be brought in the UK and it features more models, better graphics etc. The best has got to be the London and Liverpool Maps. I think that those versions are complete enougth to warrent their own area. ED --86.112.234.8 17:45, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Linux and Loki Games
editI reworded the following sentence in the introduction:
While some users have managed to run SimCity 4 on Linux, 3000 was one of two SimCity games (the other being the original SimCity) to be specifically released for the operating system through an arrangement with Loki Games.
This is misleading, because it suggests that Loki Games ported the original SimCity to Linux, which, as far as I could find out, they never have. There is a Unix/X port by Don Hopkins, which would run on Linux, but AFAIK it was never officially released.—Graf Bobby 14:22, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Unlimited?
editThe add-on was called "World Edition", sometimes also "UK Edition". The title needs changing 86.153.26.30 13:47, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Scdsboxttg us.jpg
editImage:Scdsboxttg us.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Separate article for Sim City 3000 Unlimited
editThis certainly was not an update, it was triple the size of the previous game, included scenarios, more saved games, updated options, the fundamentals were merely based on SC3K. There is alot that's different in each game and I see no reason as to why SC3KU shouldn't be split into a separate article. Nick carson (talk) 05:34, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- It would be a great idea but SimCity 3000 and SimCity 3000 Unlimited have lots of things in common except the list of landmarks, the city customization, scenarios and other little things. And also SimCity 3000 Unlimited is SC3U... And I am afraid that you are not right about the game...

Overuseage of citation tags
editThere is way too many citation tags in this article. It seems every few sentences are tagged! Most are 'sky is blue' statements. It's hardly justified as the game itself can't really be faked, what personal interest does anyone have in describing a decade-old game accurately? Nick carson (talk) 23:55, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- If you feel that any particular tags are unnecessary, please list them and let's discuss. But things like "The most notable change is the addition of the concept of waste management." are statements that could surely be cited, in this case, especially if it is so 'notable'. Granted it's an old game and sources may be hard to come by, but it's not impossible. DP76764 (Talk) 00:49, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
- I feel that the Gameplay and Changes from Sim City 2000 section isn't a detailed description of how to play Sim City 3000, and the citation tag making that statement is unnecessary. The section is just describing significant new features and gameplay changes that weren't in Sim City 2000, not giving people a detailed strategy guide on how to play Sim City 3000. --realitytvlover (talk) 18:14, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
Android Availability
editThe article claims the game is available for Android, but gives no source. Some quick googling makes it seems as though it is not availble on Android. Can someone confirm/deny it's availability? 99.240.47.3 (talk) 22:53, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

There is an Android version but it is old and cannot play on modern phones... you'll need a 3-4 year old smart phone, or even older. Warshington (talk) 04:37, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
