Extra Data references

I see that most of the references showed in the section Influences and references were taken almost verbatim from a spanish spoken website (http://www31 . websamba . com/silent_hill_dawn/Silent_Hill_Easter_Eggs.htm) with data included on some forums like Silent Hill Forum. Some of the data were just translated from spanish and references like Blue Bell and the Coca Cola logo I found them only on that particular fansite and some other forums posted by the same author in spanish and english.--189.157.112.106 (talk) 14:51, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Lord of the Flies?

I don't find this addition too believable. Is the only thing you're going on the conch as the Gas station sign? Cause I think when I wrote the conch shell part, it might have been a snail shell instead. --Thaddius

I have removed this reference since I went back through the game and discovered that the 'conch' that I labelled earlier is actually a snail-shell. --thaddius

Removal of the "full plot"

The current plot is untrue... it's also very messy. I'm going to remove it, there are so many different theories of how the plot really goes there can't be just one "full" theory, and there's too many theories to put them all down. If someone disagrees and thinks the plot should stay, please state why, keep in mind that you thinking this plot theory is correct is not a valid reason. Code E 05:46, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Audry Jr.

Someone keeps changing the name Audry Jr. to Audry II in the pop culture references section. In the original Little Shop of Horrors the plant is called Audrey Jr. The sign in Silent Hill also says Audrey Jr. Please stop changing it. --Thaddius 16:08, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

'Official' Ending

Someone keeps changing the endings senction to say that one of the game's endings is the 'official' one acording to Konami. Post the reputable link with the article where you're getting this info and we'll review it, otherwise, stop posting it. --Thaddius 12:59, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

It's definately oneof the good endings (as it has to lead on to SH3), but I couldn't say which one. Another thing about endings: I watched them on YouTube, and the descriptions here for the good endings seem quite off. Ah, you're right there is no mention of Lisa grabbing ahold of Kauffman, I'll add that in a minute. As for Harry's thoughts I guess it probably shouldn't be there. He definally does look around, looking rather confused but it doesn't nessesarily mean he's thinking "this isn't right". That comment makes it seem like it's the wrong ending, but as far as I'm aware there is no true ending. I too have read about one of the endings being "confirmed" in Silent Hill 3, but I also heard there were many loose ends that didn't truly confirm it. Konami themselves have stated that there is no 'official' ending and that each ending is it's own unique story arc. For that reason there is no 'official' endings because they all are 'official'. When I added the endings I had Lisa in there but someone seems to have removed it at some point. No idea why. --Thaddius 17:53, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

I've played some of the NTSC version and finished the PAL version once for now. I think (I'm not sure though) that some things differ between these two, and that's why, for example, some claim that Lisa draggs Kaufmann to hell, some claim that she doesn't. I think this because I think some things on the beginning are different if you compare PAL and NTSC versions of the game. Well, either the good+ ending or the good ending is the official (canon) ending because both endings involve Harry escaing with a newly created baby (Seeing as how u play as his daughter in SH3 that would make sense). Seeing as how Cybil isn't in SH3 and Harry is it is safe to say that she died in SH1 (Making the good ending the canon ending). Although she could have escaped SH with Harry (making the good+ ending canon) and died sometime later. So even though we still don't know what the Canon ending is if you look at the facts you could narrow your choices down to only two possible endings. Cybil's fate is mentioned in the latest installment in the series, Silent Hill: Homecoming. Deputy Wheeler tells the protagonist, Alex Sheperd and Elle Holloway about a police woman from Brahms who went to Silent Hill on a case and never returned home. The only evidence left of Cybil was her motorcycle, which was found crashed on the road to Silent Hill. So it is to be assumed, based on this information and the fact that there was no mention or appearance of Cybil in Silent Hill 3, that Cybil never escaped from Silent Hill and was most likely killed by Harry Mason out of self defense when she attacked him at the amusement park while in her possessed state. Therefore this would make the good ending the official (canon) ending -- Liquidous Snake

WRONG retard, The good ending is not the canon ending. Wheeler only said that no one knows what happened to Cybil. She could have simply sneaked back into town, backed up her belongings and fled town to start a new life. If you had paid attention while playing SH: Homecoming, you would have learned that Wheeler said that The Order is one to bear a grudge. They don't take kindly to people that don't share their beliefs. And they are known to have the ability to track people down. And in the translated book of memories, Silent Hill Hiroyuki Owaku stated that Cybil's fate is "left to players' imaginations".

Also, SH4 revealed that SH2 protagonist James Sunderland disappeared when he went to Silent Hill. Does that mean he died too? NO, not at all.

PLEASE pay attention when you play video games.

Play Novel

I'm wondering if we can get a detailed explaination of the Silent Hill: Play Novel as so far the description only mentions the Sping Boy Scenario and that you can 'use' Cybil in the game. I'm aware that it retells the original game and that it has a story for Cybil, which was supposed to be in the original game, but was scrapped before release, and that there are 4 scenarios for Andy, but I know no specific details. Michael G

Does anyone have any source on who this guy is? It's pretty obvious "Michael G" is a fake name to get around union rules. I've heard rumblings that it's Thom Huge who played Jon on "Garfield and Friends" (believe it or not). Anyone know? Thedoorhinge 19:16, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Compatibility Issues

WP:VG assessment

Definitely in the upper regions of Start-Class, but there are still a few issues which are preventing this article from getting further:

• Lead needs expansion per WP:LS: summarise the whole article in two or three paragraphs.
• Could do with more citations: WP:CITE.
• There are a lot of one- and two-sentence paragraphs throughout the article, particularly in the Reception section. Try merging some of these together as the brevity of these paragraphs makes the article less smooth to read.
• External links in the Influences section need to be converted into in-line citations thingies.
• Any information for a Development section? Given the age of the game it wouldn't surprise me if no information was available on the Internet, but you never know.
• The plot section seems unfinished: you should summarise the entire story rather than give a back-of-the-box-style blurb.
• Reception section could do with expansion. Have a look at some articles at WP:VG#Example articles to get an idea of how to do this.

Snow versus Ash

A silly point, but someone changed all the instances of 'snow' in the description to 'ash'. I just wanted to take the time to point out that the movie took creative licence and revealed the precipitation to be ash, but in the game Dr. Kauffman specifically states that there is snow falling outside - Dr. Michael Kaufmann: "And it's snowing out, this time of year. Something's gone seriously wrong." This quote followed the first instance in the article where snow was mentioned. --Thaddius (talk) 13:13, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Censorship: Mumblers

The monsters in the school were the "Child #3 in the NTSC version, as this page http://translatedmemories.com/bookpgs/Pg102-103.jpg says. Take a look at this screenshot: http://www.shtc.silenthillfever.com/s1.%20potw3c.htm As you can see, the Mumblers here have paler skin than the "Child #2" monsters and they don't have a big hole in their faces, only lines. Keen observation, but you'll note that in Baum's original 1900 book the 'Tin Man' is actually called 'The Tin Woodman'. The film is what popularized his name as 'The Tin Man', but he is in fact a woodman (that is, a lumberjack) made of tin. The Wizard of Oz trivia still holds true, it was just not worded properly to convey that I suppose. If the game's international release has multiple different covers that vary significantly, up to two can be displayed in the infobox; alternatively, consider only using one cover, selecting the cover of the regional release that has gained the most attention through sales, similar to selecting the most common name for an article via naming convention.
