Khmer Writing edit

I can read a little Khmer and the Khmer Version "ក្រុងព្រះសីហនុ" is wrong. Transliterated this would be something like "KrangPreSihn" but not Sihanukville. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.186.69.80 (talk) 07:42, 16 April 2008 (UTC) No problem, Krong Preah Sihanouk is the formal name in Khmer.Reply

"ក្រុងព្រះសីហនុ" is actually the original name. "Sihanoukville" is a French name that became also the international one, but in Khmer the city is called "Krong Preah Sihanouk" that literally in English is "Sihanouk City" and in French "Sihanoukville". --Albeiror24 - English - Español - Italiano 14:56, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sex Tourism edit

The town is increasingly popular with former residents of Pattaya forced to leave by changes in Thailand's tourist visa rules in 2006. Many bars in the centre of town and on Victory Hill (also known as Weather Station Hill) cater to a mixed clientele of older white men and young asian women.[citation needed]

I've deleted this, as it paints Snookyville as a sex tourism destination. Anyone who's been there knows it's anything but, and is still essentially a sleepy seaside town. Besides which, it suggests that sex tourism are older men and insinuates that anyone who sleeps with a girl or a prostitute in Asia is automatically a sex tourist, neither of which are true. --CloutierFan02 03:45, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

possible vandalism edit

There is some possible vandalism, especially about the part where Kampoung Som is an unnattractive place compared to Thailand becuase its full of greedy narcotic shipping criminals. There is also something about huts being bulldose by the government. First and foremost, I don't know about the narcotics but its not verifiable. Secound, there were no reports of Khmer Rouge kidnapping tourist in Kampoung Som in 1994. Kampong Som is not a stronghold area, expecially after 1993. This would have been on the news. Lastly, the beaches in Kampoung Som are narrow stripped, meaning a hotel would never fit on it and huts being bulldose is not reported on the news, or by civil rights groups. In fact Sihanoukville was a Non-going place before the 1990's, but there is not documentation to state that because evidences of that reality were forgotten. Just oral testimonies. --Albeiror24 - English - Español - Italiano 15:01, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bye Bye Blog Spam edit

If you feel tempted to add a link to your guesthouse/website/tour company/bar - don't. It will be removed.--Paxse (talk) 06:52, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

province of Sihanoukville edit

Several provinces in Cambodia have the same name as a town. In Wikipedia usually, there is a page for the town and another one for the province, not for Sihanoukville.

The page for the province needs to be created. For instance, when we talk about 199,902 people living there, it's unknown whether this is for the town or for the province. --Io Herodotus (talk) 11:01, 20 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sihanoukville was the place of the last official battle edit

"Sihanoukville was the place of the last official battle of the United States Army in the Vietnam War, although the incident took place outside....." You can actually say Sihanoukville was the place..etc. US Air-force units bombed the local port after the incident as a retaliatory measure.Wikirictor (talk) 08:44, 18 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sihanoukville City article edit

i am going to compile necessary materials for a "Sihanoukville City" article now, since the one that exists is obviously dedicated to the province or municipality, although contents are mixed up. That means i also have to move parts of the content of the existing article to the new article and restructure the province article. I upload everything after i got it sorted on my machine. If anyone disagrees, please let me know. Wikirictor (talk) 13:18, 19 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Requested move edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: first, sorry that your draft was rejected by someone who didn't understand what you were trying to do. I have merged the history of your draft into the city page, which is currently at Sihanoukville (city) where you created it. Second, I have moved the page on the province to Sihanoukville Province. However, at this time I have not moved the city page to Sihanoukville, because it is unclear from this discussion what the primary topic of the basic term is. If you would like to initiate another move request to move the city to the base name, please do so. Dekimasuよ! 00:06, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

SihanoukvilleSihanoukville Province – existing article content refers to Sihanoukville Province by now as i went through the entire content about 4 weeks ago and renamed accordingly. Yet further editing, clean-up and sorting is required. I have created a Sihanoukville city article, which can be viewed in my sandbox: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Wikirictor/sandbox, which i would like to create as soon as above mentioned article is renamed. Thanks Wikirictor (talk) 09:02, 6 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Support Most of the other Cambodian provinces have the word "province" in the title. Making this move would ensure consistency and would allow the article on the city of Sihanoukville to have a cleaner name. Spirit of Eagle (talk) 22:04, 9 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
