The contents of this page were mainly copied from Signalman, which is current being {{split}}. Once the split is complete I'll start updating and cleaning this page. Renski 13:46, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect Page Title edit

Signalman was a rating (speciality); not a rank. Rating is the term for the Navy's equivalent of the Army's MOS. I am tempted to change page title; but not knowledgable enough to know wnat if any problems that would create. --Wfoj2 (talk) 13:24, 18 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Three years later it's still incorrect. I'd change it myself except the last time I tried to rename a page I made a bit of a mess out of it. In any case, rating is very different from rank. A SM1 (Signalman First Class) is the same rank as a BM1 (Bosuns Mate First Class) although different rates (Signalman vs Bosuns Mate). Likewise a SM1 is the same rate as an SM3 (Signalman Third Class) but a different rank. Nibios (talk) 17:20, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

^^^What he said (above). Please change this. The correct headline would be "Signalman (rate)" I was a Signalman in the navy. Examples of different ranks within the Signalman rate would be "Signalman First Class (SM1), Signalman Third Class (SM3), and so on. Examples of different rates are Signalman, Yeoman, Boiler Technician, Gunner's Mate, and so on. This is a gross error, you should really change it. [1] [2][3]
