History of Sierra Vista
editI have added some historical information and will continue to add as I research further into the subject. Tgilbertson (talk) 18:30, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Yes but too bad some of the info is incorrect. There was a HUGE pueblo in benson with satellites through the valley. As someone with Native American ancestry I find the whole paragraph about the settling of the san pedro valley to offensively worded. When coronado passed thorugh looking for the 7 cities of gold, the pueblo was described, as well as the unusually large population of I believe pima (its 10+ years since reading book) were being raided so harshly by the invading Chihuahua Apache their settlements and the spanish fort near whetstone were drastically reduced and effected just as Caucasian settlers were finding the area. The whole thing is presented in an ethnocentric way. I would try to reword myself, but an editor jumped on me for requesting and trying to write an entry on FRY, because he did not like my citations, all all which are used in this page. Can we discuss this info or do you mind me changing it? Ambre P (talk) 11:36, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Cancer cluster information.
editThis section lacks citations and verifiable information; on top of that, it's poorly written. It should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.231.155.61 (talk) 01:17, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
How about some climate information? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.102.152.253 (talk) 23:42, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
There has been quite a bit of vandalism of the "notable residents" section. I've done my best to stop it. -thewinrar —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gorilla Hand (talk • contribs) 22:00, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Okay, this is ridiculous. Someone keeps putting the Cancer Cluster information back in. Having a small paragraph with links to resources was fine, but this is just some angry parent trying to be re/proactive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.190.121.235 (talk) 01:24, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- The way the article reads now, there is barely a single page of info about Sierra Vista, with 4 more pages of CDC and Health Department reports on Leukemia and other cancers, contaminations and years of studies, etc., cut and pasted right into the article. I guess it's possible someone is trying to scare people away from the town by inserting all that stuff. Hi, we're Sierra Vista and we have a drive-through McDonalds... now spend the next 20 minutes reading about all the cancer studies we've done on our residents! Not a place I'd like to visit. They even double-pasted the same cancer stuff over and over again. I'll see if I can fix it. Xenophrenic (talk) 01:13, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, I've chopped down the 4 pages of repeatedly pasted CDC reports to 3 paragraphs. It basically says there was a spike in childhood leukemia, people got concerned, studies were run, no conclusive problems were discovered, but there are still some concerned residents pushing for more investigation and answers. Anyone know if a follow-up 2008 CDC report was done, like they promised? Xenophrenic (talk) 06:50, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for reviewing the information and creating an informative write-up based on the reports. I will research if there is more information available. tgilbertson (talk) 10:03, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I added a paragraph from the AZDH report. This sentence, along with the rest of the paragraph, is straight of that report and cited #13. The rest of the paragraph on the subject are excellent and hats off to Xenophrenic.
Photos
editAnyone have any recent photo images we can add to this article? Points of interest, scenic shots, anything? I keep looking at the Tucson article, and feel this one could look just as good. Xenophrenic (talk) 06:50, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
- I have photos from all around Sierra Vista. I will add them as soon as I get a chance to read up on how to add them. tgilbertson (talk) 10:03, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Notable Residents=
editShouldn't Charles Messenger be noted? He's been a resident of Sierra Vista and surrounding county for 30 plus years, the reason I say he should be a Notable Resident though is that he is a semi-famous artist with his own website. www.messengerartgalleries.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.27.1.3 (talk) 16:47, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Confusing climate information
edit"Due to the dry climate the rest of the year and the city's high elevation, the high and low temperatures will swing between 20 °F (−7 °C) - 30 °F (−1 °C) in a single day on average and up to 50 °F (10 °C) on rare occasions. "
The author is referring obviously to tempurate range and not actual temperatures. Therefore, the standard F > C conversion formula should not be used. The need is only to convert degrees and not adjust for freezing point. Using the standard conversion formula has resulted in negative range values. If the ranges were as listed, it would mean that the average high temperature on any given day would be lower than the minimum. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gs32794 (talk • contribs) 14:32, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
