Pyrrhic? edit

Hahaha. Khartoum remained in Mahdist hands for 14 years after the battle. 84.73.134.206 (talk) 12:17, 30 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Evacuation edit

Before the building of the various Aswan Dams the Nile flooded up the walls of Khartoum for approx six months annually. At any time during this six months Gordon could have evacuated Khartoum. For reasons not apparently clear the fact is that he didn't.

As word got out that there would be a city with rich pickings if stormed and taken must have been a considerable inducement for the Mahdi in recruiting an army.AT Kunene (talk) 13:37, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Question about siege edit

I realize that Hollywood "history" is weak but in the 1960s film, they imply invading forces slaughtered all of the city's inhabitants (along with the soldiers). But that doesn't seem supported by the account here. Is this accurate? 64.134.71.163 (talk) 22:56, 2 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
