Journalism?
editI am surprised that Colvin is being done via the Journalism subsection. Looking at the career highlights and his work, it would seem to be more academia. -- billinghurst (talk) 01:26, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, he seems to be primarily a museum curator. BrainyBabe (talk) 07:45, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Connection to other Colvins
editHis father and elder brother were named Bazzett David Colvin; the family were East India merchants; there is every likelihood that they are connected to the John Russell Colvin line of Indian Empire administrators, as John named one of his sons Bazzett Wetenhall. Any proof of connection? BrainyBabe (talk) 07:55, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- Later the same day: yes. James was the common forebear, involved in East Indies trading with various partners and under various combinations of names: Bazett, Crawford, always Colvin. He purchased The Grove in 1824 (according to local history source) and the eponym (1806-1871) inherited in 1847. John Russell was born 1807 and as 2nd son presumably could not inherit. ONDB says JR was 2nd son, 4th child of James the trader. So Sidney is a cousin. BrainyBabe (talk) 17:43, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
