Periods in Office

edit

the whole first paragraph needs rewrite for clarity. i was thoroughly confused. 'she has held this office'. what office? oh, acting governor general. i can't do it because i don't know the details, but it wants doing.

much better, imho. thanks.Toyokuni3 (talk) 20:44, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
She has never been acting governor general. There is no such position. As chief justice she has from time to time acted as "administrator of the government".119.224.13.116 (talk) 20:20, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've rolled back the recent edits - there seems to be a lot of POV in these edits, they were disjointed. --LJ Holden 05:00, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

The statement that "although no one in the legal profession disputes that Elias is up to the job" is colloquial, and very sweeping. It is also wrong - as a lawyer I have heard a number of lawyers say that she is not up to the job. I suggest deleting the sentence, as it adds nothing to the article.203.184.41.226 (talk) 10:35, 18 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

While this sentence is supported by the ref - I don't see the value in it, nor who appointed her. It feels like the reference is opening the door on possible bias in her appointment, but then tries to shut it down. Clarke43 (talk) 23:16, 8 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've just made a series of edits to try and repair my original mistake (overlooking a repeated citation). The problem is now solved, but there are quite a few meaningless edits involved. Please don't roll back. Timothy.conder (talk) 05:46, 23 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I note the current page identifies her as a "moderate" and refers to the current supreme court as conservative-leaning. This doesn't really map on to how anyone I know thinks of it - I'm a law student in New Zealand, and frankly that looks like an effort to map American judicial politics onto a very different system. Elias is by far the most activist member of the court, but that's not really conservative or liberal in any sense.

The source for that claim is a hyperpartisan conspiracy blog. Reading the blurb they have for Elias makes the weirdness of the source obvious, and I quote: "Her strength as Chief Justice on the Court is that of an ‘enabler’, a personal tendency to look the other way when it comes to misconduct by her fellow judges. This tendency fosters allegiance but not much professional respect from her colleagues. It also conflicts with what the public expect in the way of integrity from their judges"

Given that, I have removed the line. It could potentially be replaced by a more nuanced discussion of her judicial philosophy, but it'd be hard to do that in a non-partisan way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.239.154.235 (talk) 09:24, 13 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

The relevant link: http://www.kiwisfirst.com/judge-file-index/supreme-court-chief-justice-sian-elias/

The URL really gives away what kind of site this is, but a brief readthrough of the actual post will also give it away. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.239.154.235 (talk) 09:29, 13 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
