notability edit

All riders competing a full season in the World Championship are notable.  Dr. Loosmark  16:31, 16 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Where in net is information about his death? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.254.19.62 (talk) 12:44, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Accident at Misano edit

Should this be renamed to death or have death added to the title? Superchrome (talk) 13:11, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I don't feel so, that's an article about the racing driver, not about his death. R.I.P.. 77.73.142.55 (talk) 13:34, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I see what you mean, but I have seen on other pages of deceased people a section named Death. Superchrome (talk) 13:39, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
If the person isn't notable but their death is for some reason (e.g. Death of Jean Charles de Menezes), then we wouldn't normally create an article for the person (and if it happens we would usually rename or delete it) but may create one for their death. Shoya Tomizawa IS however clearly notable, and this article was created quite a while before his death (generally a good indication they were notable) so this article will stay. If there is sufficient information surrounding his death to warrant a split, that could happen in the future (e.g. Death of Ayrton Senna) but that shouldn't happen yet Nil Einne (talk) 14:21, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

2010 performance edit

This article needs more coverage of his 2010 performances, particularly as his podium stats seem to indicate he was far more competitive than in any of his previous years. Manning (talk) 15:53, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

"season in progress" edit

As he's now passed away, it shouldn't be necessary to have the asterisk next to overall points standings in race results table noting that the season's "in progress". 132.203.164.72 (talk) 17:40, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

His championship position will still change throughout the season as other riders overtake him.--Midgrid(talk) 19:02, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Death section edit

should:

"Tomizawa was the first MotoGP fatality since his countryman Daijiro Kato was killed in the senior class at Suzuka in 2003."

be incorrect, since racer Peter Lenz died a few days ago in MotoGP —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcos.mayorga (talkcontribs) 17:46, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

That was a support race for the MotoGP series, not one of the three MotoGP classes.--Midgrid(talk) 19:01, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Races not attended edit

There is a widespread practice within Wikipedia of including a full season picture for riders in the race tables, including races not attended. This is a bad practice for two reasons:

  • 1 - It is misleading at first glance - it suggests the rider attended more races (in some cases FAR more) that he/she actually did.
  • 2 - It does not relate to the subject. Every race table on Wikipedia provides a link to the article on the relevant racing season, and a reader (if so inclined) can easily access details on the full racing season. A table of races for a rider should only provide information/links directly relevant to that rider.

Hence I am removing all links to the non-attended races. Manning (talk) 01:55, 10 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

You will need a consensus for that at the Wikiproject - it's a very wide-ranging proposal. Not a good one, either, in my view. Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:06, 10 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
We're working on an alternative on another page. The current system has flaws - it is misleading about race participation to at least some of the readership. However I've since established that simply blanking non-attended races isn't a solution either, as it adds new confusion in terms of season lengths. So a couple of us are exploring alternatives to improve the formatting and legends of the tables. When (if) we've come up with an alternative that is better, we'll take it to the Wikiproject. If we can't settle on a better alternative, well, then nothing will change. Manning (talk) 01:00, 11 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
