According to the Olympic Games' official website, this article should be renamed in "Shooting at the 1896 Summer Olympics – Men's 50 metre free pistol". Pymouss Let's talk 21:38, 14 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

There were no pistol events conducted at 50 metres in 1896. The 30 metre free pistol event consisted of 30 shots in 5 series of 6 shots each.
Furthermore, the event that is often listed as the 1896 rapid fire pistol event was conducted using only muzzle-loading pistols of .45 caliber (30 shots in 5 series of 6 shots each). The 25 metre military pistol, which was won using a Colt revolver, was the third pistol event.
This is documented by Olympic history experts. It is reported that the IOC has an agreement with one of them, Bill Mallon, to substitute its database at the link you gave with Mallon's Olympedia database. Jeff in CA (talk) 23:53, 14 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
