Schemer

The Article Lists Schemers Name as Horace Schemer, but IMDB the episode "How the Station Got Its Name" Lists is as Jebediah Schemer. Which is correct? IMDB LINK --Tech-Chef (talk) 06:34, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Well, technically both. Brian O'Connor played Horace Schemer, but in that ep. which was the last aired (Not including the family specials), there was a flashback where they showed the main characters anscestors working at the station. Asterisks in episode list

What are the asterisks for next to the episode titles? I've searched the page up and down and cannot find a footnote that applies to these. Could someone who knows what they're for please put in a footnote corresponding to it? Or if it is determined they have no reason please remove them? I'm not sure, but I think it denotes that the episode had a VHS release, at least that's what I happened to notice that the asterisks were on most of those episodes. --Bladez636 (talk) 01:30, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Titles with "&" vs. "and"

Many "Thomas Story" and "Jukebox Band" titles are commonly found on the web with both "&" and "and" forms. recently, an editor has been changing titles from one form to another. Many times he's gone from the more popular form of the title to a less popular form of the title, and I've been reverting him. As a result, I'm offering some general Wikipedia guidance:

TL;DR version

Please use titles which are either official, popular, or preferably both if there are multiple accepted titles for the same work.

Long version:

If the "official" title and the form of the title that it is most well-known by are the same, use that title.

If the "official" title is non-existent, obscure to the point of being practically unknown (e.g. it may appear in a copyright-registration document or in a one-off publicity notice, but it is not in print on the DVD jacket or in widely-available publicity material), or if there is more than one "official" form of the title and the most well-known form of the title is one of the official forms, the most well-known form should be used.

If there is a published official title but the most well-known form of the title is different, then things can get complicated and a discussion should be started.

I did some cleanup:

I didn't have time to look up official titles, but I did do a "quick audit" of all of the titles with "&" in them and changed those in which the most common form was not being used. However, my methodology varied and I would welcome other editors to come back and find evidence that I made the wrong call.

My basic methodology varied. Is started off by just Googling for the title, in quotation marks, in both the original form and the form I wanted to change it to.

Later, as I worked my way down the list, I changed to adding "Shining Time Station" -wiki -pedia -wikipedia to the Google search.

Still later, I added the episode title to the search, inside quotation marks. At one point I added -"Deleted Video" to the search because there were a lot of deleted videos with the "&" form polluting the results. Adding this changed the outcome.

In some cases, I used multiple methodologies and got conflicting results. In these cases, I made a judgment call.

Again, I welcome editors to come back after me and demonstrate that my results were incorrect. I also encourage editors to find the official name or names of these titles, especially when the names were widely used, such as on DVD dust jackets or in on-screen title credits.

Notice to editors who wish to change titles that have already been reviewed:

Finally, editors summarily changing titles that have already been reviewed from the current form to another without providing a credible claim in the edit summary, in the edit itself, or on this talk page that the new title is at least as preferred (in terms of "officialness" and/or "common-use-ness/popularity") as the existing one may find that their edit is reverted. This claim should be backed by at evidence.
