"Elementary My Dear Watson" Section Is Outdated edit

The discussion of "Elementary, my dear Watson" omits the latest scholarship on this topic. The recently published New Yale Book of Quotations (Yale University Press) reveals discoveries pushing evidence of this phrase back well before 1909. 2601:192:80:99D0:9DCE:8CA6:47D4:A270 (talk) 14:46, 21 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

That section doesn't claim 1909 is definitely the earliest. It says "there is some indication that it was clichéd even then." ThaddeusSholto (talk) 15:44, 22 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Arguably the best known?? edit

Do we really need to say he's the arguably the best known fictional detective in the lead? Practically all sources agree that he is the most famous fictional detective. I think 'arguably' should be omitted. Jack234567 (talk) 11:25, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

One could also argue that Hercule Poirot is. In the absence of irrefutable evidence (or at least a large scale survey), having a qualifier is safer. Ponsonby100 (talk) 12:25, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

proposed edit, under 'Personal Combat' edit

"In "The Solitary Cyclist", Holmes visits a country pub to make enquiries regarding a certain Mr Woodley which resulted in violence." -- mixed tenses, should be "result". 64.223.97.117 (talk) 21:13, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Indonesian translation notes edit

I found a thesis (a master's thesis?) about translation Sherlock Holmes into Indonesian, though I don't know how helpful this is to the article as I haven't read the whole thing https://eprints.uny.ac.id/21089/1/Andy%20Setyanta%2007211141017.pdf WhisperToMe (talk) 04:22, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Redirect edit

Shouldn't it be redirected here from the "Sherlock" page? Gadir (talk) 22:49, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Don't think so, there are other things people could be looking for such as that TV series. Jack234567 (talk) 05:32, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
