I have yet to find any evidence that there is a folk version of it. The sources seem to say that Leontovich took some older musical themes as the basis for the composition, but a quick look doesn't disclose any evidence that the song as a whole had any existence as a song prior to the version we have from him. I'm inclined to change the lead to say that he wrote it based on folk themes. Mangoe (talk) 13:56, 27 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
