Talk:Shawiya language

And, of course, another reason for the threat to the continued existence of the Chaoui/ta-Chawit language might be that in 1998 French & 'Berber' (what did that mean?) were banned as official languages, leaving only Arabic. Presumably in effort to unite Algerians of Arab, Berber & European descent.

(Do people of Catalan, Basque, Welsh, Quebecois, Acadien/Cajun, Aymara, Quecha, Guarani, Mapuche descent have any view on this?).

Sources edit

I am wildly short of sources on Thshawith, although I'll go looking. Can anyone help improve the status of this page? It needs wikifying and interlacing using appropriate templates (Berber languages?) and much more information.

Shawia languageChaoui language — As per WP:COMMONNAME. The name of the language and people is Chaoui. A quick google search of Chaoui returns 1.94 million hits while a Google search for Shawia returns 29,900 hits and I'm sure most are due to the article currently entitled using Shawia. Lack of discussion, conflicting evidence edit

There was no discussion above. A quick check on GBooks will come to the opposite conclusion: if LLC (a WP republisher) is excluded from the search, and searches are restricted to post-2000, "Chaoui Berber" has 56 hits, of which 36 display, whereas "Shawiya Berber" has 414 hits, of which 173 display. The millions of hits above are mostly people's names and geographical. — kwami (talk) 15:21, 30 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
