cured pork shanks are known as ham hocks.

I don't think this is correct. The hock refers to the joint just below the tibia, while the shank refers to the tibia itself. I'll try to find a reference... Bjartmarr (talk) 04:44, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The word shank is particularly amusing to speakers of British English. For example: "I'm just off for a quick ham shank".
