Japanese Katana edit

While I was visiting Shanghai, I remember my local guide told me this tower the Shanghai dwellers has a certain dislike to it, because if you look at it sideways, it do looks like a Japanese Katana sword. Also according to Fengshui pointy objects gives bad auspicious, also could be because the memory of Battle of Shanghai still fresh in the memory.

The upcoming Shanghai Tower which supposed to look like a dragon is believed to deflect the bad fengshui coming from Shanghai World Financial Center pointy Katana sword. hanchi 19 July 2010

I hate to be a wiki-lawyer, and also a buzzkill, but i'd like to remind us all that Wikipedia isn't a discussion board, or a place for fans to hang out and discuss a topic. This discussion page is for discussion about the article. I'm not sure what you mentioned about qualifies as factual information... more like opinions and rumour, which means it's not the stuff of Wikipedia.
That's all i wanna say, though, we do appreciate all contributions to Wikipedia. —fudoreaper (talk) 20:53, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Rising Sun edit

I don't feel comfortable with the sentence that the circle symbolize the "raising sun" of Japan. Any evidence to say so?

The circle was not meant to represent the Rising Sun, but as the developer is Japanese, some people in Shanghai disliked the resemblance. There are quotes by architects William Pedersen and Leslie E. Robertson about this here. Lawrence Lavigne 14:22, 24 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Article pictures edit

  • I have updated the page with an accurate picture and an update to the construction area! ^_^ --Moped 00:04, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • I have edited the page with a construction update and a link to a video showing the final girder's installation. Azureprophet 22:36, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Since the building is now complete, it would be nice to have a picture from the completed building. --Siipikarja 13:22, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • It would be nice to have a main picture that doesn't show the building as if it were leaning, and maybe have a good view of the hole as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.135.220.149 (talk) 22:20, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Hole edit

The whole near the top of the building is not a square, as the article says. I believe it's a trapezoid, correct? Look closely. Azlib77 03:50, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

the building is 492 m not 491.9 m

Really? I thought it was 491.98m Yongke 07:00, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've been told this design change was implemented because the round hole reminded too much of the Japanese flag, is this speculation or are there citable sources on this? If so, I reckon it's an interesting bit of information to include in the main article. -- MiG 13:36, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I second that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.245.115.4 (talk) 06:57, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Construction image on the page edit

I think it is important that this image be updated as I'm aware that the tower is significantly taller than in the photo and a large amount of cladding has been attached to the building. - Erebus555 13:32, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Copyright infringement of Image:Shangai3bldgcompare.jpg edit

I will copy and paste the same text from Moped's talk page. There seem to be no reply. I changed all "you" to "he" for a reported speech.

++++++++++++++ A year ago, if Moped made this himself and claim full ownership of the image, then from what I have seen, it looks poorly cropped, pinched lines can be seen, (First Image) and looks like it was taken in a screenshot quality. I can also see the horizontal lines that is on placed on the diagrams (Last image.)

The original drawings are seen as here; http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?b7609

You see because of these observations, I cannot agree with the idea that he drew 3 different illustrations of the SWFC in its different form and hereby claiming that it was created by himself. I happen to be an illustrator in Skyscraperpage.com, and these 3 different illustrations are drawn by the following 3 of varying nicknames; Rick Ruiz, James Raymond and Nightsky. Unless if they grant him the permission and legal rights to use the drawings, then that's fair enough. However it can't be the case as these illustrators I contacted them regarding about the usage of these 3 drawings, have absolutely no idea about their SWFC drawings being used here. And even though they might allow him to use the images, the 3 drawings should not have these visible affects as stated above as it is the illustrator's code of practice in Skyscraperpage.com to provide the original drawings and should not be screenshot cropped.

I would like to know if is this really the case. ++++++++++++++

Bottle Opener edit

Where can I get a Shanghai WFC shaped bottle opener? --Tbk.uncia (talk) 12:11, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

This widely-noted resemblance has been included in the article and referenced – thanks!

Chinese template edit

A request for someone mastering the Chinese language. Would you be kind enough to insert a Chinese template to this article and fill it in with appropriate text. The article introduction has too many language translations in parentheses currently. With the use of Chinese template we could get rid of these. --Siipikarja 22:24, 4 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done Request fulfilled, though I don't speak Canto at all xP... it's called online dictionaries 华钢琴49 (TALK) 22:59, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Much appreciated. --Siipikarja 12:15, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Image edit

Its pretty dishonestly shot as it doesn't include the Jin Mao Tower or the Oriental Pearl TV tower, both of which are pretty close by. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 21:52, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
