I'm curious that this area's cuisine is known for peanuts and corn, both of those crops having originated in South America AFAIK. Was there contact between say Portuguese sailors and this area, as it lies on the coast? Historian932 (talk) 14:40, 18 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Portuguese missionary brought seeds in early 16th century. Boiling is basic for cooking, and plicking is also widely use. Chinese don't have oven, the boil or stream corn and peanut. Because they have a large output on given field. Especially, we use peanut to produce vegetable oil for daily cooking, although I prefer the flavor of Dongbei soybean oil. Why peanut>corn? Specifically, maize and peanuts were both introduced in the 16th to 17th centuries, and cultivation became widespread in the 18th century.
