"The parting shot of Shaman King"

I know that the "last chapter" of Shaman King was so controversial because of the nature and a lot of fans doesn't accept the ending, but... is this a little too much to put the page of the last chapter of the manga in Wikipedia? is a horrible spoiler. --Hayama Akito (talk) 01:45, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Encyclopedia's don't care about spoilers. Also, please create discussions at the bottom, that's where the new ones are found. If you feel it should not be on the encyclopedia discuss it here Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga. DragonZero (talk) 04:11, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
As DragonZero said, there is no exception made in Wikipedia for spoilers as these are encyclopedia articles and intended to discuss the subject academically. The original non-ending was controversial which warrants mention. That said, the subject of the ending was originally discussed under the section heading "Original Ending" which singled this subject out to be examined on it's own. That section heading has since been removed and this section now makes up the bulk of our discussion of the manga. I might try to edit this later as this gives undue weight to the ending when discussing the manga, but I don't have time right now.
Placing an image from manga into an article is possible if a fair use rationale can be arrived at to explain why a picture is necessary. In this case, the article comments heavily on the imagery that the author used in this one panel to indicate that the story is unfinished. Hewinsj (talk) 15:09, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
I understand your points, mostly all articles in Wikipedia about Anime or other media has spoilers... the difference is about that this "spoiler" is a picture, and is not easy to evade in comparison with a written spoiler on a "story" or "settings" section. If people here in Wikipedia wants to keep it i understand, but remember that Wikipedia is a source and a lot of readers just want to get info of "what is this Anime about", not to find the ending (official or not) with just scrolling down a bit. --Hayama Akito (talk) 09:24, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
The inclusion of spoilers in wikipedia has been discussed before and in general they are not frowned upon because sometimes they are necessary for an academic analisys of a subject. If a reader wants to avoid spoiling something for themselves they just need to be cautous.
In this case though I think that's besides the point. Is that section of the article even a spoiler? Here we aren't discussing the end of the story, only that this is how it ended and was left hanging for several years. As a fan of the series I would rather find out something like this sooner than when I get to the last book and just have the rug pulled out from under me because an American publisher decided to release an incomplete series.
Fortunately, the actual ending (according to the Kanzenban Version section of the article) is being released and is currently being made available online for free by the publisher. That is to say the stuff that comes after this "parting shot". We aren't showing any images of that. Hewinsj (talk) 15:23, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Manga Ending

I posted everything I knew about the series ending based on news I had read, but then checked Amazon.co.jp and found out that vol. 32 has been released. Can anyone get their hands on it and add onto what's allready here? I'm hoping for something a little more substancial than they all take a nap. Hewinsj 13:43, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

As far as I know vol 32 is part of the original series, and ends with the infamous Princess Hao non-ending... There aren't any sources on this article that actually mention a new ending volume that was released in 2006. I browsed the net for some time but couldn't find any hint of a new volume. Can anyone confirm whether this 2006 volume exists? Athanatis 16:30, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
I don't think Shaman King would be continuing anytime soon as the author, Hiroyuki Takei, has just started a new series,Jūki Ningen Jumbor, in an recent issue of Weekly Shounen Jump. Jutari 17:26, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
I read somewhere that hiroyuki takei will make a final volume 33. he should have said that to some reporter but i really dont have a reliable source so i dont edit the article page :P
This has already been discussed at the bottom of the page. And please sign your posts. Thank you. Jezebel Parks 20:31, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Characters

I've looked many times at the Characters section, and no matter how many times I do, it still appears sloppy and disorganized. I propose providing links to the pages dedicated for main characters, another page for minor human characters, and yet another page for spirits. All of the current information could then be transferred to the aforementioned pages, with no loss of content. I think that would be more appropriate for this article, seeing as about half of it is unnecessarily devoted to character descriptions. Ctu2485 23:51, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

I could get behind that. The character section here has too much text if there are already individual articles for each one. Maybe move the data from here and put the links together in a chart with a thumbnail of each and everyone sorted by association or team affiliation? Hewinsj 20:28, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
I've moved a lot of the character section to its own article. Hopefully we can build that into something like Fullmetal Alchemist and Naruto have for minor characters. This way, we can have information on minor characters without all the clutter on the main page.Ctu2485 03:08, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

This is from an unregistered user, but what about adding more about characters that are manga-only? For example, Redseb and Seyram, as well as their spirit Golem which plays a good role in the manga. Also, it would be nice to add something about Mikihisa, who appears a lot in the manga.

I think it would be appropriate to introduce and organize information on the character groups, like the Five Warriors and Gandhara. User:74.69.27.134

I agree with the user above; I can get down to creating articles for manga-only characters. Also, I propose that X-Laws get a separate article, and remove the one that is with Iron Maiden Jeanne. Marco2050 04:35, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

If there's enough material on major characters they should get their own articles. If there isn't enough material, there should be a section for major and minor characters. Marco and Jeanie could fit in the major characters section, while the other X-Laws would go in minor characters (as they were supporting characters). You could then put a sub section in for anime/manga only characters into each of the two articles.
You don't want too many, because if you make an X-laws article, you could then argue one for each fighting team, and that's more separation of data than the Wiki usually likes. Hewinsj 15:26, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Techniques

There is no reason to have a different stub for every shaman technique. They all need to be compiled into a single article covering techniques. I already removed some links to articles about techniques that only redirect to the main article, so, hopefully, this will also help clear some of the clutter off of the template. Ctu2485 03:10, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Magical Boy?

I don't think you can remotely call Shaman King a counterpart to mahou shoujo anime. If it had a henshin sequence, maybe. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.122.63.142 (talk) 17:00, 6 December 2006 (UTC).

Yoh's second OS

Does anyone know the Japanese name of Yoh's Armour Oversoul? I only have the Chinese version so I know that it means White Swan, but not the pronunciation in Japanese.

  • Its formally called "Spirit of Sword: Byakkou" (スピリット・オブ・ソード: 白鵠) Though normally, it is simply shortened to "Byakkou" ("白鵠" meaning "White Swan"). Check the "Over Soul" article. There I made updates to the character's OS descriptions. Reige 16:29, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not a soap box

Guys and gals, please limit your discussion to the article and ways to improve it, not the article's subject. Matty-chan 21:42, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Shaman King Returns?

I've heard rumors about Takei saying that he hopes to finish the final chapter of Shaman King this year, or in 2008. It was said at a French Anime Convention. Volume 33 will have 280 or more pages.

We don't to distribute that link because then people will just read it online instead of supporting the manga and buying it when it comes out. It's true, but until we find a source other than that forum, it won't be added to the article. Also, please sign your posts with four "~". Thank you. Jezebel Parks 21:29, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I found an interview on a French news site (translated by Google) that asks the question "Your publisher asked you to complete Shaman King hastily and you have never made a secret of the fact that you would like to complete it, do you still plan on doing so?" The response is "yes, I plan on ending the series as I originally imagined it ending, sometime in the beginning of next year."
Not sure how reputable this news site is but it could be worth discussing here. Hewinsj 04:39, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
We're waiting until a Japanese press release. Jezebel Parks 02:53, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
It's cool, I'll keep an eye out for something better. Also keeping my fingers crossed that this whole thing turns out to be true. Hewinsj 13:23, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Will this picture do? http://www.mankin-trad.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=33639#33639 Haftorang (talk) 23:57, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Shaman King has returned and is going strong. I know I shouldn't, but because I read the manga online, they are currently past the part with Princess Hao and Yoh and the rest of the group are still going through the plants. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.106.250.92 (talk) 02:51, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Subject Merger

I'm a big contributor to the Shaman King articles, and lately have been updating the content in various articles alongside Jezebel Parks. Someone else has pitched this idea before, but I want to take the initiative and go ahead begin the project. So here's what I propose; we merge all main magic-related articles (ie. "Over Soul", "Giant O.S.", "Techniques of Shaman King") into one article. There is no productive reason to have these articles segregated and I petition that content from be incorporated under one article; I propose the simple moniker, "Magic (Shaman King)". This article will be divided accordingly to all major forms of magic in the series including "Hyōi Gattai", "Over Soul", and "Spells".

Now the Over Soul article has been heavily renovated (by myself and the anonymous 149.169.45.217) with general information concerning all Over Soul magic (Giant-, and Armor-types). So that part of the project is done.

All I'm proposing is a central article dedicated to the magic of Shaman King. Now, the Over Soul descriptions themselves could be relegated to their own independent article (given the sheer size & length of the collective descriptions, and the nature of the article.)

All I'm asking is for a small group of contributors to assist with the project (collecting information, research of licensed material and information [I'll handle this portion; I got the material], and article maintenance.)

I'm hoping I get some support on this. I think it's really worth it.

For anyone interested, just post a comment (w/ names...so I know who's on-board.) here or on my talk page. Hope to hear from ya'. Thanx.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Reige (talkcontribs) 14:46, 24 September 2007

If you plan on merging the articles, then I think you should just do it into Techniques of Shaman King. "Magic" is never used (at least in the series I watched and read), so seems inappropriate. This way, there would be no need to create a new page, and all the information would be in one place. My only worry is the article becoming too long, since the Over Soul article is already a little long in itself, but we'll just wait and see. If I had to choose, I would rather just leave it. Jezebel Parks 22:59, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
That...makes total sense. Okay, we can just do it that way. As for the list of Over Souls, we could possibly relocate them to a "list" article, that way they wouldn't distract from with the content of the techniques. I think that could work, don't you think? Reige 23:48, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Funbari no Uta

I'm alittle confused. On the page it reads; The side story Funbari no Uta, which lasts for only five chapters, is set six years after the end of the manga series features Hana Asakura, Whose name is formed by the combination of his parent's names, Hao and Anna's son, and his journey with his uncle Ryu to gather up the 5 elemental warriors:

I thought Hana was Yoh and Anna's son. I'm lost here. RecklessFire (talk) 00:16, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, some say it's the son of Hao and Anna, some say Yoh and Anna. I'm not completely sure, but I think Takei said that in the end, Yoh and Hao become the same being, so I guess it could be either. Kang Zeng Bang changes

I have the first two reprint volumes, and have noticed that some of the panels have been redrawn. Evidence: old vs new; old vs new; old vs new There are more examples, but those are just a few of the more noticeable ones. A small difference is how Ren's general design may stay the same, but his bangs are longer in the reprints than in the original. I just want to know if anyone thinks this is significant enough to include in the article. Jezebel Parks (talk) 00:15, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Crazy, I didn't know it was going to be anything that dramatic. I think this is definitely notable, and could be mentioned in a few sentences or short paragraph in the section about the new reprinting. If you want to take one of these examples that you have provided, combine them into one side-by-side image and discuss specific things that have changed between printings. You could claim fair use on that image since you are discussing the manga in a real world, out of universe sense. This was done in the production section of the film 300 to compare shots in the film taken directly from the comic. Hewinsj (talk) 02:39, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Episode Guide

I'm happy that someone is finally getting around to making a SK episode guide, but do you think that maybe we can give that a seperate page instead of just putting this on this page? And maybe we can add a few episode descriptions as well. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 17:31, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

  • since it is only one season and there isnt excately a lot of episodes it might be best to keep on the same page but if someone is willing to makea new page do all the work required for it and maybe go as far as to add dvd release section on the new page then go ahead ill add the tables later.--Andrewcrawford (talk) 17:35, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Wouldn't it make sense to put it in the List of Shaman King media article? Also, went through and did my best clean up the rōmaji in the list - not entirely confident in my work there, so could someone look it over and confirm/fix it? --Eruhildo (talk) 23:27, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, media lists are generally discouraged by animanga project consensus. Really, the OP/ED info in the media list should be merged into the episode list, rather than adding the episode list to the media list. In addition, the voice cast lists should be merged in with the character list, and the VG and soundtrack lists should be merged with the main article. —Dinoguy1000 19:32, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Chapter list

I've stated a chapter list for Shaman King in my userspace, since I'm too lazy to fully develop a list of chapters ATM. Feel free to expand it as you see fit, I'll move it to its own article when it covers the whole series. —Dinoguy1000 21:27, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Is a chapter list something that we really need? I could see a list of volumes with a short summary of each one (like a list of episodes for a tv series), but this doesn't seem like it would help a wikipedia reader understand the subject any better and just takes up space. Hewinsj (talk) 13:42, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
I may be misunderstanding. I looked at the List of Ouran High School Host Club chapters and that seems fine, listing the vitals on each volume without listing each chapter in each book individually. Is that the sort of thing you are going for or do you mean to list each chapter individually as you have it now? Hewinsj (talk) 13:47, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
The list I've started follows project consensus on general layout, with the exact layout of each volume's specific details (chapters, publication dates, ISBNs, etc.) being controlled by {{Graphic novel list}}. It seems that you're getting hung up over the fact that it is called a chapter list, as opposed to a volume list - this naming is also per project consensus (see WP:MOS-AM). Also, this is far from the first list of chapters I've created or expanded (see the list of articles I've created), so I definitely know what I'm doing - my problem is just that I'm lazy unmotivated. ;) —Dinoguy1000 17:50, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Your right, it was the name that threw me. I saw you listing the name of each chapter in the first volume, and thought that that's all the list would consist of, with no summary. This is a new type of list for me so I'll read up on it when I have some time. Hewinsj (talk) 21:58, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Please do not link to this list from the article. In general, links from the main namespace to other namespaces (in this case, the User: namespace) are discouraged, and the list needs to be filled out more and moved to the main namespace before it can be linked from the article. Thanks! —Dinoguy1000 19:05, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Merge

I'm not sure who posted the tag, but I don't see a discussion so I figured I'd start one. I wouldn't be opposed to merging some of the information into the main article under a section like "Additional media" under the now empty reception section. Opinions? Hewinsj (talk) 22:54, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

I'll get to it then. DragonZero (talk) 14:44, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

cancelled

it's not told in the article why the first version was cancelled.

189.27.255.209 (talk) 20:49, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

That's because it wasn't, it ended. DragonZero (talk) 21:34, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Actually, it is cancelled per an interview of the author in Japan, the series later continued in 2008 with the republication of the manga called perfect edition(完全版) with 20 new chapters, leading back to the story of the last chapter of the original manga volume 32, where the kid of Yoh go searches for the heroes(who defeated Hao, technically only changing his mind and stopping him from using the Shaman King powers to destroy the world) and bringing them back together. MythSearchertalk 06:51, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Shueisha's demand as mentioned in the manga section from this article makes me think the series had lost some popularity in Japan since the release from volume 32 was delayed in Japan. However, as I read in an interview featured in the kanzenban, Takei mentioned he was very exhausted and had several problems to write the series' ending.Tintor2 (talk) 13:40, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
