Race?

"[A] local music school would not admit her because of her colour". Because she is white? Or black? Or Asian? Or "coloured"? Or WHAT?

Hi there,

I believe that was my edit originally. By way of explanation, when I was editing this section, I could not find a reference in a reliable source that specifically cited Surtie-Richards' race. (It doesn't mean it's not out there; I just didn't fine it at the time.)

I believe she would be considered Coloured in South Africa, but I didn't want to make the assumption without seeing a reference from a reliable source or from the subject's own words. I've been challenged before for not providing a solid citation to something that may be considered well known. Thus, I erred on the side of caution in this case, not as a way to overlook or dismiss or ignore the importance of the subject's race.

I'm happy to revisit this matter and see if I can find a source for the desired information - although the beauty of Wikipedia is that anyone can edit this article, not just me, so if anyone has the needed information, they can update the entry. Bayonett (talk) 16:06, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
