I disagree with the proposed deletion. The Shake Shack is a fairly well-known restaurant, and is notable, if for no other reason, for being iconically busy. There have been several articles on the place in the New York Times. People stand in line for 45 minutes to get a (really good) hamburger. So I'd say it's a fairly famous New York restaurant - if restaurants are going to be included at all, then this seems to me to be a notable one. --TheOtherBob 02:54, 21 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Miami

edit

Why is there a citation request after Miami Beach? Was someone doubting that the store exists there, or was the issue whether or not it was the first non-New York location? This is a source that should attest to both, if someone wants to edit it in there: http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/shortorder/2010/06/the_first_burger_and_fries_at.php 72.28.220.63 (talk) 11:51, 1 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

NYC Community Boards

edit

There should be a section on the fights that first occurred during the proposal to place these restaurants in city parks. It is a large part of the story that is missing the article.

Some community board members fought the placement of the "kiosks" that were planned. When the Shake Shack structures were completed there was some controversy as to how the projects were approved. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.252.0.52 (talk) 09:46, 18 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Removal of locations

edit

I recently remove all of the information regarding the individual locations. There are several reasons for this, including:

  • Per WP:Not, Wikipedia is not a business directory. The information that I deleted was simply a list of where each location was located and when it opened.
  • Also per WP:NOTBLOG, the information was basically a blog of the ongoing expansion of the company - the information was not actually about the company known as Shake Shack. It contained almost no information beyond the when and where of the individual stores opening.

I would like to suggest that contributors who wish to work on this article take a look at similar articles, eg Five Guys, In-and-Out Burger or Burger King, to see how to handle this type of article.

Removal and re-removal of sourced material

edit

I put back in the removed material that had been well-sourced. I hope this process has improved the article. FWIW, I am a fan of their burger. Bearian (talk) 20:24, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Please understand that this stuff is in violation of WP:Not, specifically not a directory of all the locations. Please see my post at the head of the article.
Also, I wish to point you to User:Duja/It's sourced and WP:Routine, the stuff I removed is in line with these essays - it's not cruft, it's an extraneous list of the company's locations and when they opened. Please look at the three articles I have linked to at the top of the talk page, two fast food chains, BK and In & out, and a fast casual chain, Five Guys. These are examples of how you create an article on a burger joint chain. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 22:42, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Expansion of the article

edit

I recently have begun an expansion of this article, while I do not intend to bring to Good Article Status anytime soon, I do full intend to bring it to B-Class status. I have begun addressing several flaws in the article, including the fact that this has become a blog posting announcing the opening of each new location. As I sated earlier, this is in violation of the basic guidelines of Wikipedia outlined in WP:Not. Also, there seems to be an issue with It's sourced - just because you can provide a link to a reliable source that confirms some facet of information that has been introduced to the article, it doesn't mean it should be included. Additionally, many of the sources fall under the category of coverage known as routine - coverage that does not establish notability such as reviews or opening announcements. Before restoring the list of locations, I ask that any editor wishing to restore this list look at some of the better restaurant articles, including Burger King and KFC to see the proper way to format an article on this style of restaurant.

Give me a couple of weeks to finish this. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 07:51, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

hormones and antibiotics

edit

We have two versions that have been tried here: "and says that its meat has neither hormones not antibiotics" or "hormone and antibiotic free". The actual primary source says, "Our proprietary Shack blend is freshly ground and 100% all-natural Angus beef – no hormones or antibiotics ever."

We have three possible approaches: actually quoting the text or explaining the text or using what independent reliable sources say. All three are problematic.

Quoting a primary source is generally a bad idea as we're basically regurgitating advertising. Yes, they said it, but the importance of the statement is based entirely on POV. Imagine, for example, two versions of an article on a politician, both using direct quotes, one by a supporter, the other by a detractor.

Explaining what the source says is equally problematic. Advertising text is written to stay within the letter of the law and sound good. For example, your local grocery store has "uncured" bacon, sausage and hot dogs "with no nitrates or nitrites added". They are, of course, loaded full of nitrates and/or nitrites (from the "celery juice powder" or similar ingredients added for that reason). So, while an editor might say milk produced without the use of rBGH is "hormone free", ALL milk is loaded with hormones (that's why cows produce milk: to provide hormones to their calves). Are their hormones in beef? It's muscle tissue; what do you think hormones are? Are antibiotics used to treat illness the same as those used in regular feed to speed growth? You might say beef/milk/whatever is produced from animals that have not been treated with hormones/antibiotics, but the source does not say that.

That leaves saying what independent reliable sources have to say. That's typically the best idea for most material.

TL;DR version: Most primary-sourced material is essentially advertising and right now we're misusing it. We should remove this until/unless we can find an independent reliable source. - SummerPhDv2.0 03:48, 7 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello, the sentence "On October 10, 2018, Shake Shack announced that it will officially start operations in Singapore at Jewel Changi Airport in 2019. As of 2020, there are currently 3 locations in the city-state." is outdated. They currently have 5 locations in that country, as stated in the source. For consistency purposes, it's probably more appropriate to also reword "locations" to "outlets". 104.244.208.204 (talk) 22:17, 4 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Done, although I kept "locations" since it was more consistent with the rest of the article. Vahurzpu (talk) 00:03, 5 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

From Human Events: https://humanevents.com/2021/07/29/major-restaurant-group-to-require-proof-of-vaccination/

In what appears to be a first for the restaurant industry, Danny Meyer, founder of Shake Shack, said his Union Square Hospitality Group will now require indoor diners to show proof of vaccination.

Employees will also be required to get vaccinated.

The policy will be implemented at the Union Square Hospitality Group, which oversees Gramercy Tavern, Manhatta, and Union Square Cafe, according to the Epoch Times. However, the policy will not include Shake Shack.

Meyer touted the new restaurant policy as “the most logical thing [he’s] ever seen.”

“I’m not a scientist, but I know how to read data and what I see is that this is a crisis of people who have not been vaccinated, and I feel strong responsibility, on our part as business leaders, to take care of our team and our guests, and that’s what we’re doing,” he said on CNBC.

“We’re going to give our employees 45 days to make the choice and hopefully this will be the incentive that really makes them say, ‘you know what, now I’m going to do it,’” he added.

Meyer said that Shake Shack will make the decision at an “appropriate time.”

  • The sentence – In July 2018, Shake Shack announced that they will officially open a store at the Bonifacio Global City business district of Manila, which opened on May 10, 2019 with the first person on the queue lined up at 10:30 PM the previous night. Should be removed, it's original research and has a tabloid/advert-like tone;
  • Adding – As of 2021, there are 8 locations in the city-state.[1] Following the sentence which mentions its beginning of operations in Singapore on October 10, 2018. Cheers, 152.169.115.23 (talk) 22:36, 27 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello all, I don't remember my Wiki password and never bother logging in anymore. I give it too much time when I do. Still do edit sometimes though. If we're exhaustively listing state expansions here, Wisconsin's first was in 2017 in the Third Ward neighborhood of Milwaukee. Another in Madison and they are building a third in Brookfield. From the article it looks like their expansion is being managed by a company from Texas: https://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2021/06/07/shake-shack-plans-second-restaurant-in-milwaukee.html

Not done: And what is so stunning about an outdoor kiosk? There are already enough images in here, and I don't see what this adds, and this is an encyclopedia article, not a photo gallery... RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 19:49, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Food quality

edit

It was once already contained in the article, that Shake Shack uses 100% natural American angus beef only, that has never been deep frozen, is completely free of hormones and antibiotics and is strictly from humanly raised and grazed in the USA (sold at all it‘s domestic American location restaurants that is).

This needs to be re-included.

Hello! I noticed that the revenue, operating/net income, total assets, total equity, and employee count haven to been updated since 2018. I was curious if it was possible to update the numbers to 900.49 million green up revenue, 337.51 million green up operating income, -24.09 million red down net income, 1.49 billion green up total assets, and 419.75 million red down total equity for 2022. I can't find the number of employees for 2022, but the other numbers all come from Shake Shake's 2022 annual report. https://s27.q4cdn.com/357966323/files/doc_financials/2022/ar/Annual-Report-to-Stockholders.pdf

Shake Shack operates in Israel, they have a location on Dizengoff Street you should add Israel to the areas served between Hong Kong and Japan. 2A02:14F:1FA:3123:31E7:2DAE:4AFA:3D62 (talk) 05:09, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not done for now: Please provide a reliable source confirming their Israeli locations have opened and then reopen this request. The existing 2023 citation says they plan to open locations in Israel in 2024, but we don't currently have confirmation that this happened. Once we have a source there should be no problem making this change. Thanks. Jamedeus (talk) 05:43, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
