- Yes. Steel is both ferromagnetic and strong enough to withstand the stress due to the magnetic force when the magnet is energized. The pole pieces aren't used to conduct electric current, so steel is OK. What exactly is the question? Unician ∇ 06:48, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
