The following sources: Are greater protections needed for LGBTQ+ staff and students in faith-based schools? (The Educator Australia, April 9, 2021) and LGBTQ+ teachers and students in faith-based educational institutions need urgent protection (Equality Australia, April 8, 2021) added to this article [1], [2], were originally added by DrMushEa on 06:03, 27 August 2021 Beccaynr (talk) 21:55, 12 October 2021 (UTC) - comment updated per WP:PATT Beccaynr (talk) 01:06, 13 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Beccaynr, merely pulling sources cited in another article is not a copyright issue requiring attribution. You applied these sources with new text and in a new framework; as such this was not a merge requiring attribution to the Karen Pack article and the editors who applied those sources in a different way with different text. Therefore, you personally are the attributed author in this case with your edits preserved here in the article history at Sex Discrimination Act 1984. 4meter4 (talk) 22:00, 12 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
4meter4, Per WP:COPYWITHIN, content (two sources) is from the Karen Pack article, and attribution therefore appears to be warranted, and I added it here because my attempt at creating a dummy edit failed. I typically do attribute the origin of sources when I pull them from other articles, but it was an oversight today and I appreciated what I thought was your reminder. Rather than us hash this out, I'm going to ping an expert on copyright rules on wikipedia and copyright law who works regularly at Wikipedia:Copyright problems. Nikkimaria can you please investigate if an attribution is mandatory here. If it is, it will have a direct impact on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Karen Pack as we can not delete an article which has attributed text elsewhere. I would argue that an attribution is not needed as no close paraphrasing or copy pasting of text happened between articles; only the use of identical sources. 4meter4 (talk) 23:16, 12 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
4meter4 and Nikkimaria, I updated the attribution per WP:PATT, because Using this method, the edit history of the source page is unnecessary, and it will not matter if the source page is later deleted or moved, as compared to my first attempt, which would have required the preservation of the article history. If the only thing being copied is the citations themselves, attribution is not required; this wouldn't rise to the level of originality necessary to receive copyright protection. Nikkimaria (talk) 01:44, 13 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Nikkimaria, I see "bare references" is listed under WP:NOATT, and I had missed what that meant while thinking about the creative act of finding the source and adding it to the article, and trying to be protective of the encyclopedia and the contributions of others. Thanks again, Beccaynr (talk) 02:06, 13 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Nikkimaria. So basically, an attribution isn't necessary in this case.4meter4 (talk) 02:53, 13 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
