Dome collapse in 1888

I have read several references to the collapse of the main dome and vaults of the Cathedral in 1888, but have never seen any information describing this event, and the reconstruction. Does anyone have something on this? Hiberniantears 17:25, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Is it really the biggest cathedral?

I was in Seville a few days ago and visited the cathedral. I read its claim of being the largest cathedral and the largest church after St Peter in Rome and St Paul in London. I was surprised because it looked smaller than the Cologne cathedral. So checking the Wikipedia I found that a) the claim of being the largest Cathedral is repeated b) the Wikipedia entry of the Cologne cathedral appears to make that one larger than the Seville cathedral by every measurement. So maybe the claim made in the Wikipedia should be corrected (not sure if one could get the sevilleans to correct their statement) Stephan

As far as I know it is the third largest by volume. And St Peter's is not a Cathedral but a Basilica. Regards, --Asterion^talk 00:00, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

If you exclude everything that is basilica or temple and not a cathedral then, according to the list of largest church buildings in the world, Seville is the second largest. 74.12.65.220 (talk) 01:52, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Liverpool (built 1909) claims to be the largest Gothic catheral in the world. I'm sure Milan Cathedral and Cologne Cathedral claim to be the largest medieval gothic cathedral in the world. Anyway Seville doesn't look that classically gothic. Xandar 11:30, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Any particular reason we should have the contact information for this ONE cathedral? And that right at the top of the page? Why oh why? I'll remove it. Work on history section + other comments

I've expanded the historical summary using information available at the generally reliable Grove Encyclopedia of Medieval Art and Architecture; see edit here. I've made minor changes elsewhere to reflect new sourced material or for consistency in wording. I also encountered some contradictions between the new source I used and the older material in the Timeline section, but I can't access the older sources in the latter section so I've left a hidden comment there, pending further verification.

Aside from more detail, the history section also needs more information on the post-Gothic additions to the building. Some work is needed on other sections too for verifiability and for coverage of other subtopics.
