Goldeneye

where did you find out that those are the coordinates of severnaya in the movie Goldeneye

Please don't add the Goldeneye base in again, neither the name nor the location (as shown on screens) correspond to the Arctic archipelago! "Severnaya" simply means "Northern /place/" in Russian. 83.251.165.91 (talk) 21:15, 24 April 2019 (UTC)

Renaming.

I find the renaming doubtful. None of the royal family members are commonly called 'saints' and the links redirect to completely different people. The paragraph seemed POV to begin with (Bolshevism?) Zazaban (talk) 06:46, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

I agree that beginning with "Bolshevik" seems POV. Regarding the names, formerly people were given names after saints. The islands were named after the saints which gave origin to the names after which the Russian Queens an Princesses were named. This doesn't mean that the deceased royal family members are saints themselves. That is why they redirect to different people.Mohonu (talk) 09:50, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Zazaban, it is true that there is a request to rename certain islands in Severnaya Zemlya. Links in English are hard to come by. But there are many in Russian. The last motion was rejected. But the question may be be raised again and again in the future. The Imperial family might not be formally recognized as saints, but in fact they are venerated as saints and martyrs by a sizable number of clergy and people of the Russian Orthodox church. And it seems unlikely that the islands will keep the names they got in the Soviet era for very long. Names such as "Bolshevik Island" and "October Revolution Island" aren't likely to stand up when the Bolshevik era has become a thing of the past, and something many Russians are not very proud of. It's not POV to indicate that there are suggestions with a notable amount of backing to rename the islands. To many Russians, the current names must seem as uncomfortable as "Mount Nixon" would have been to many Americans. /Strausszek (talk) 02:31, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

From Nicky To Lenin

It seems the archipelago was briefly known, in the late 1920s/early 1930s, as Lenin Island, even outside of the USSR.
