What lexicographers do edit

Regarding the clause, "Lexicographers have often failed to allow for semantic prosody when defining a word", isn't "allow for" being used wrongly? Why should definitions "allow for" connotations? Perhaps lexicographers ought to study, elucidate, or write articles about them, rather than "making allowances" for them. Unfree (talk) 23:57, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps the author had a dim view of lexicographers, allowing for that they're all dolts, and simple chose the most neutral phrasing he could think of to describe their work. :-) 67.198.37.16 (talk) 16:50, 4 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
