8th Corridor edit

A sentence towards the end of the History section mentions that an eighth route is currently planned for 2014, citing a rotted link from the official MTA website. As it is now 2015, is there any update on this eighth route so that the sentence can be made relevant or deleted? rellmerr (talk pagecontribs) 17:47, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Done. Clarified that it was the financial plan, not the year, being referred to. Epicgenius (talk) 01:45, 13 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Q44 SBS edit

It's finally coming! If you click the link on the reference I put, there is a list of stops within the article. I will be busy over the next few days. I will try to add them, but I would like some assistance. Very much appreciated! RES2773 (talk) 01:35, 27 June 2015 (UTC)RES2773Reply

coloring the text of +selectbusservice edit

Any particular reason why {{color}} was being used to color the stylized title of +selectbusservice? I assume it is an attempt to include a stylized rendition of their logo. However, Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility#Colors and Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Text_formatting#Color are pretty clear that this practice should be avoided in prose text. Especially with the silver, it is more difficult to read. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (talk) 00:56, 27 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Agreed and removed. oknazevad (talk) 04:27, 2 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Route map colors edit

I see that the route maps here persist in using a black background with light text. I must ask why this is since it's inherently harder to read, especially at thumbnail sizes. This isn't the first time I've seen this; such a map had previously been used for the Staten Island Railway article as well, though that has since been changed. The maps really look awful and difficult to use. To what end does the black exist in the first place, and can we get them recolored, please? oknazevad (talk) 04:27, 2 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Here is that prior discussion regarding the SIR, by the way. Although that map is no longer in the article (for whatever reason), the criticisms there apply equally well here. Black land/dark grey water/light grey text just sucks. oknazevad (talk) 04:43, 2 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
I agree, the maps are hard to read even on a large, high-resolution display, and are unintelligible on smaller screens. It is hard to imagine a reader with less-than-optimal vision getting anything but frustration from these maps. Is there some overall Wikipedia policy to discourage unreadable graphics, or a way to flag them for improvement? Reify-tech (talk) 16:21, 27 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
You're right, these probably fail WP:ACCESS. They need to be changed. oknazevad (talk) 18:29, 27 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

How has it been seven years and we still have these WP:ACCESS non-compliant maps?!? oknazevad (talk) 16:01, 24 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Fleet numbers edit

@Olsen24:, please point me to a reliable source that in any way describes which specific buses are assigned to a route. – Train2104 (t • c) 11:28, 5 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I am not talking about the route assignments being undone, i am talking about the numbers of buses on SBS duty. That is important information and should be kept. It should not count as cruft. Olsen24 (talk) 20:32, 5 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

There's a need to distinguish between "number of buses on SBS duty" (which is set by the service levels on each route, etc) and the actual vehicle numbers themselves (which could change at any time). – Train2104 (t • c) 14:35, 6 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Olsen24: Please discuss, rather than keep reinserting the content. There's no source, it's excessive detail, and it's not important to readers of a general interest encyclopedia. – Train2104 (t • c) 02:35, 19 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

I am getting the SBS numbers from a depot roster on google sites. I am not making the numbers up. Olsen24 (talk) 03:07, 19 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
A fan site like that isn't a reliable source. It should not be used as the basis of article content. And frankly it's trivia anyway. oknazevad (talk) 03:51, 19 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
>Not to our friend Olsen24 it's not! Mtattrain (talk) 21:02, 12 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Removal of fleet roster edit

To avoid disputes over photos and what not, I'm thinking of removing the fleet roster table from this article, since in the template for SBS in general, the fleet of vehicles is listed. Mtattrain (talk) 21:03, 12 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Mtattrain: Or we could just achieve consensus over which images to use. I like having the roster table there; it gives further context of what the buses look like. Tdorante10 (talk) 21:07, 12 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
>@Tdorante10: Good point, it seems that most of us except some particular users agree on the images anyway. Mtattrain (talk) 06:27, 13 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Mtattrain and Tdorante10: Can the SBS Fleet roster be moved to MTA Regional Bus Operations bus fleet? SportsFan007 (talk) 05:12, 21 November 2017 (UTC)SportsFan007Reply
>@SportsFan007 and Tdorante10: The rationale for isolating SBS vehicles was to avoid the overuse of photos and the assignment of fleets on the main fleet page, but those seem to be overriden (both are being invalidated by Olsen24's edits anyway).
@Mtattrain and Tdorante10: I wish someone would block Olsen24 indefinitely already. SportsFan007 (talk) 18:38, 21 November 2017 (UTC)SportsFan007Reply

Destinations list in infobox edit

Can the Destinations list be made collapsible for moved out of the infobox before it gets too long? SportsFan007 (talk) 05:09, 21 November 2017 (UTC)SportsFan007Reply

Edit warring edit

Enough! Mtattrain, Olsen24, if you can't discuss this like adults, not only will you earn yourself blocks, a topic ban from this article is probably an inevitability. Discuss. No more reverts! oknazevad (talk) 00:16, 4 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

> Olsen24, I understand that you wish to update images, but the quality of the photos you are suggesting is not good. Please refrain from editing the images unless you have reasonable images. Mtattrain (talk) 00:22, 4 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

>> Olsen24, the purpose of talk pages is to discuss. You don't simply leave explanations when you revert. Also, I am refraining from using your personal talk page so other users besides me can pitch in more easily.

Templates on the Select Bus Service page edit

None of the templates are working properly on the page for some reason. Can anybody fix it? SportsFan007 (talk) 21:14, 31 May 2018 (UTC)SportsFan007Reply

That is utterly bizzare. I don't know.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 21:21, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@SportsFan007 and Kew Gardens 613: This page has exceeded the limit for template transclusions. There is a maximum number of templates that may be displayed on a certain page before the templates stop working properly and instead display regular wikilinks, like this: Template:Reflist. I commented out some route map templates because they have high parser usage. This issue first surfaced nearly two years ago and I still haven't been able to find a solution. epicgenius (talk) 20:02, 1 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Mr. Stradivarius, Od Mishehu, WhatamIdoing, and Jc86035: Also pinging the participants of that Village Pump Thread about the template limits. It looks like the route map templates could be the problem here. epicgenius (talk) 20:04, 1 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
I agree with epicgenius's analysis about the TLIMIT problem. Either the templates have to be made more efficient, or fewer of them can be used. WhatamIdoing (talk) 22:18, 1 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
@WhatamIdoing and Epicgenius: Asked at Wikipedia talk:Lua#Module:Routemap. Jc86035 (talk) 16:24, 16 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

@WhatamIdoing, Epicgenius, SportsFan007, and Kew Gardens 613: Since TemplateStyles has been enabled (about 15 minutes ago), I've updated {{Routemap}} with CSS classes so that if all of the diagram template are added back everything should display properly now. Jc86035 (talk) 11:31, 19 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Jc86035: Well, I previewed the page after adding back all the templates. Although the routemap templates are much lighter, they still reach the template limit. In the new update, the templates stop working after around the Woodhaven/Cross Bay Boulevards section. epicgenius (talk) 12:17, 19 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Removal of roster on the SBS Page edit

I propose removing the roster table of buses used in SBS on the Select Bus Service page, because the table seems to have been moved to the MTA Regional Bus Operations bus fleet page, and because the Select Bus Service page is quite long as it is already. Please let me know what you guys think. Mtattrain (talk) 16:18, 30 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Templates broken edit

@Epicgenius: Templates are broken since there are too many on the page. Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 14:44, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Kew Gardens 613 Thanks for the heads-up. Honestly, I think we should hide all the RDTs on this article - they comprise a huge portion of the post-expand include size. – Epicgenius (talk) 14:47, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yep, removing the RDT templates reduced the page's post-expand include size to "just" 1 million bytes (half the limit). – Epicgenius (talk) 14:54, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
The article as a whole is a mess, and it does not acknowledge the phasing out of the program with OMNY and more local/limited routes getting TSP and bus lanes-other features of SBS. Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 13:13, 24 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
