Proposal to split this article edit

There are presently two articles and a redirect on this subject.

This article contains information about the physics of sedimentation and some of the more sophisticated implementation designs.

Clarifier presently redirects to this article.

Settling basin was originally intended to describe primitive sedimentation structures, but has been expanded into a better-referenced description of sedimentation physics and clarifier design.

I propose to convert the clarifier redirect to a description of steel and concrete structures with continuous sludge removal machinery. I then suggest moving much of the material from the settling basin article to either (1) this article if it pertains to the fundamental physics and mathematics or sedimentation, or (2) the clarifier article if it describes mechanized applications. Material remaining in the settling basin article would be a parallel description of low-tech earthen and concrete basins without sludge removal machinery for storm water treatment, dairy waste, construction site erosion control, and similar intermittent or short-term use. Some information in this article might be moved to the new clarifier article.Thewellman (talk) 00:56, 16 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

That sounds reasonable to me provided that the cross referencing is clear and that some minor duplication is tolerated to avoid readers having to constantly hop between articles when all they are seeking is an over-view. Regards  Velella  Velella Talk   19:04, 16 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
I agree. I have thought for some time that we needed a separate article on clarifiers, as they are an important component of many treatment systems. Thanks for your contributions on this. Moreau1 (talk) 03:57, 19 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
