+ participation of the Knights Hospitaller edit

About 200 Knights Hospitaller from the fortress of Marqab are known to have participated to the battle on the Mongol side (Harpur. The Crusades: The Two Hundred Years War. p. 116.Mongols and Europe Jackson, p.175Jackson The Mongols and the West p.168A History of the Crusades, Volume II Kenneth M. Setton, see also Franco-Mongol alliance). The Knight Hospitaller Joseph de Cancy (Joseph of Chauncy, prior of St John of Jerusalem and treasurer of the Order) in particular participated to the battle, and sent a letter to Edward I describing the order of battle in detail.(Claude Mutafian 1988 La Cilicie au Carrefour des Empires, p.453 ISBN 2251326308). In his letter to Edward I, Joseph also apologizes because king Hugh of Cyprus and Bohemond VII couldn't arrive in time to help the Mongols (A History of the Crusades, Volume II Kenneth M. Setton Note 70). Per Honor et Gloria  15:52, 31 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Harper's military encyclopedia gives the strenght as follows: 100,000 for Mamluks - 30-50,000 for the Mongols. edit

Page 418 of Trevor N.; Dupuy, R. Ernest (1993). The Harper Encyclopedia of Military History. Harper Collins Publishers. Though it says "probably 100,000". It also says the battle was indecisive. --Ruhubelent (talk) 15:21, 24 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
