"ill-fated early attempt" edit

So what was the "ill-fated early attempt"? I've been a SIFF regular for decades and I don't know about this. And is there a citation for it? - Jmabel | Talk 04:47, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Premiere edit

Why is the premiere of Monster House worth singling out among the literally hundreds of films that have had their North American premiere at SIFF? - Jmabel | Talk 07:31, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Winners" edit

The article needs to mention history and display (or wiki-link to) a full list of winners. With some care it can easily become class start. Hoverfish 15:06, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Winners of what? - Jmabel | Talk 06:32, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Winners of the Golden Space Needle award. Or better the article Golden Space Needle should display the list. Now we have only 2001 and 2006. What this article should make clear is when the GSN started being awarded. I have added more awards in the series of years in film (as in 2005 in film) and intend to offer links to more awards, so SIFF could surely be included if it contains or links to a full list of winners. Hoverfish 08:14, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

The GSN started out as a joke, and only gradually came to be awarded on anything like a disciplined basis. In the early years of the award, ballot-box stuffing on behalf of directors who showed up (or were friends with the festival organizers) was the norm rather than the exception. I'll see what I can do to sort out its origins. - Jmabel | Talk 20:51, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
At my request, they compiled a complete list and sent me the spreadsheet. I've put the info in the article and will wikify it. Also, I see a few typos, which I will fix. Apparently, we're the first people who ever asked for a complete list; now that they've compiled it, they plan to put it on their website. - Jmabel | Talk 02:30, 5 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good job, thank you! At least through this article one can get an idea of GSN in terms of film preference. The first sentence of the article seems to imply that this is an important and notable US award. From this list one also understands that it is international in inclusion. Do you personaaly think that GSN is notable enough to be mentioned along with other international festivals? I was in the Moore Egyptian in 1984 and saw an extra presentation of the animation The Plague Dogs, but didn't know the theater was used for the Festival, or what happened to it, till I read this article (not that I am any kind of film awards expert). Hoverfish 06:56, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

The GSN is, in theory, an "audience award"; in practice, the voting is nothing like transparent, I don't trust it very far, and I doubt I'm alone in that. People certainly do mention them in ads, though. I think that the festival is a reasonably prestigious festival, but I don't think that the award is (or deserves to be) and equally prestigious award. I mean... Pump Up the Volume??? Also, I could have sworn that the truly hideous IP5 (1992) won one of these, but it's not in the list they sent me. I'll have to check into that. - Jmabel | Talk 19:56, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, a Jean-Jacques Beineix! I hope no one notable reads this, but IMO when a director reaches some notability he can get away with just about anything. I haven't seen the Pump Up the Volume, sound like I would agree with you, but I like the film selection here. My part in all this is that I noticed the new trend in classifying films for importance, and most of the compiled lists in the Years in film series are Top Grossing and Wide Release films, so I'm trying to balance it up somehow with awarded films and lots of interesting gaps have come to light. I'm glad I started on this track. Hoverfish 21:01, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Moving of winners edit

As discussed with Jmabel, I have moved the winners to (main article) Golden Space Needle. I have also split the table in two for easier reading. This article would improve with a picture of the Moore Egyptian Theater (as it was when named so, if possible). If you contact SIFF and do the request, please ask also for a picture of the GSN award, for the GSN article. Thank you for helping. I am willing to contribute in both articles for any further improvements. Hoverfish 09:43, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

On the way of doing this, I noticed that GSN award is only for Best Film, so putting them back here and keeping only Best Film in GSN is proper. The award subheaders could become shorter somehow. Hoverfish 15:22, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
