First Latino player?

Bill Guerin's mother is Nicaraguan, and he predated Gomez by nearly a decade. Gomez may be under the impression that he's the first given that he was quoted saying as much, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I'm removing the reference. --Jemiller226 (talk) 18:32, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

I think it probably is a bit of undue weight at this point in time. A minor mention of it, like a single sentence could possibly be warranted. However, many people don't score for long periods of time so its fairly trivial. The page has been protected at the current version so as to stop the edit warring. Discuss the situation then whatever is decided can be implemented if it is different from the current version. -DJSasso (talk) 18:16, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

I'd say that a sentence on his scoring drought is valuable - it is pretty much what has defined his last season, and once he finally does score, the sentence will be amended to state that he ended the drought. I don't think a mention of it is undue, though a full section or paragraph describing all the fan made websites, etc., would be. Resolute 19:54, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Fifth Alaskan in NHL?

The article claimed "Gomez was brought to New Jersey for the 1999–2000 NHL season, making him the fifth Alaskan to play in the NHL." Bleacher Report claims he was the first Alaskan, and ESPN says he's at least the first Alaska-born NHLer. I'm open to other interpretations; I believe there were a couple of players like the late B. J. Young (ice hockey) who signed with NHL teams before Gomez but didn't play until after. Or maybe we're counting transplants as long as they were here by a certain age. Without a citation though it's hard to confirm, so I've changed it for now. -- A. (talk) 18:05, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
