Hey Chief, article looks good...good discussion with lots of references. You will want to add some footnotes in the intro. Is there progress increasing SRO's being made currently with the response to the Newtown tragedy?Skid Lerr (talk) 14:54, 24 April 2013 (UTC) This page is being updated and added to as part of the Wikipedia Educational Program. Not too shabby looking! I would recommend a second read through to make sure there are not some awkward sentences or grammar issues other than that I enjoyed reading it and thought it was very informative. ChandlerMPA (talk) 19:07, 24 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hugely one sided edit

No mention of any benefits, trends, etc. It's entirely broken down by the issues with police in schools. This is, on the face of it, without any knowledge of the topic, clearly skewed. There are articles on poisonous chemicals that are more balanced to the development and useful applications than this.

Also, doesn't discuss what police I know talk about: the split between officer-friendly (minor crime, school policy) work and the newer focus on strictly student safety, to the point that increasing numbers of SROs are restricted from getting involved in student affairs and keep rifles and armor on site to deal with active shooter events more rapidly. 23.29.37.4 (talk) 01:51, 28 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Unsubstantiated claims edit

The intro section has tons of uncited, unsourced claims, like "School resource officers play an integral role in the public school system and have had many positive impacts on the students that they are involved with.". It feels like it was written by somebody who worked as a SRO and is trying to defend the program rhetorically. Its0908 (talk) 11:51, 5 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

origins of term edit

Where did "School resource officer" come from? It is obviously intended as a euphemism, so I presume it originated in the USA. Any information on this?Royalcourtier (talk) 23:15, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Opposition to School Resource Officers edit

I plan to add academic studies and information leading to the call to end SROs in schools including details of effects of the militarization of the classroom and how detrimental this becomes to the learning process, the criminalization of youth with underdeveloped prefrontal lobes, and the school-to-prison pipeline that often occurs with the introduction of SROs in certain marginalized communities. 801johnna (talk) 19:28, 17 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
