I've removed the bit about Saxon women going into battle bare-breasted since's it's entirely unsubstantiated. While the page on Fastrada contains a reference, the source cited itself does not cite any source for this piece of information. As such, I think the line should be removed from the article until a more credible source can be provided. Hathagat (talk) 18:20, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Saxon responsibility for the initial provocation.

This article makes it appear that Saxons are responsible for the sacking at Deventer. This may be a valid point but I have not found this recorded in The Annals of the Kingdom of the Franks, or Mossele, Lorsch, Moissac, chronicles. Neither Collins or Becher, both authoritative sources on this mention this incident. Most other sources seem to point to Charlemagne's destruction of the Irminsul being the trigger of this conflict. If somebody could point me in the direction of some primary sources that evidence this I would be most obliged Failosopher (talk) 15:23, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

I cannot point you to a primary source for the attack on Deventer, but Bachrach, Charlemagne's Early Campaigns (768–777): A Diplomatic and Military Analysis, p. 566, dates it to 773 and places Charlemagne's first Saxon expedition in 772. Bachrach suggests there was constant Saxon cross-border raiding leading up to Charlemagne's first invasion. Srnec (talk) 00:42, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
I see, thank you. Failosopher (talk) 16:59, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Reads as biased towards Saxons

I really question this article's neutrality, as it talks up the Saxon leader as some sort of prodigal hero. This is against editorial guidelines. Dbsanfte (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 10:55, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

I do not see any prodigal heroes (I'm guessing you mean Widukind being described as "resilient and resourceful", but that's a guess), but by any means, be WP:BOLD and improve the article. That's how Wikipedia is supposed to work. Kleuske (talk) 11:05, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
