This name should be corrected. Article 60.11 of the code of nomenclature specifies that there should be no "i" before the "ana". Nadiatalent (talk) 12:33, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I did a google scholar search and the name is coming up as Sarcococca hookeriana. I didn't see any results for Sarcococca hookerana. Why do papers use the name with the "i" if it goes against the nomenclature convention.?Chhe (talk) 20:41, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Article 60 in the code of nomenclature has been difficult to follow, but since the Vienna code published in 2006 it should be clear enough. See also discussion at Talk:Eriobotrya. I've just sent a note to the editors of the International Plant Names Index, which still has the "i" in over 100 such names. Tropicos as made some corrections: Banksia hookerana, and similarly in Callista, Carex, Dracaena, Grewia, Isolepis, and Potentilla.

It's a slow process to correct the spelling in the databases (of which Wikipedia is an important one!). Authors must be just copying what they see elsewhere. Nadiatalent (talk) 20:57, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Oops! As User:Melburnian has pointed out at Talk:Grevillea hookeriana, the "i" is correct. The name is adjectival in form, not possessive. Nadiatalent (talk) 12:21, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'll send a note to the Tropicos editors about the few genera where they have the spelling mistake. Nadiatalent (talk) 16:43, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
The Tropicos editors have fixed the spelling of those names. Nadiatalent (talk) 14:38, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
