Sarasota Memorial Hospital
The hospital – first named Sarasota Hospital – was the community’s first modern hospital. It opened its doors on November 2, 1925, replacing a temporary "tent hospital" and six-bed facility that had been used to treat patients with a modest 32-bed facility run by the county's welfare association.
Today, that modest facility has grown into the Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, a regional referral center with an 839-bed hospital and seven outpatient facilities, including a free-standing ER (its second Emergency Care Center), six urgent care centers, long- and short-term skilled nursing center, home health services, laboratory and imaging centers and specialty campuses stretching beyond the county lines.
Sarasota Memorial is a full-service community health care system, providing many specialty care services, including heart and vascular, cancer, neuroscience services, orthopedic services, outpatient services, home health care, trauma services [1], rehabilitative care and geriatric and long-term care. Sarasota Memorial is the only provider of obstetrical services and has the only Level III neonatal intensive care unit in Sarasota County.
The hospital is one of the first non-academic hospitals in the nation to develop a clinical research service that conducts studies in lung disease, cardiology and vascular disease, geriatric medicine and other specialty areas.
National Quality Rankings
CMS' Highest 5-Star Rating, 2016 Sarasota Memorial is the only hospital in Florida to have consistently earned the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid's highest 5-star rating for overall quality and safety since the rating system launched in 2016. Sarasota Memorial's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Home Care program also earned a 5-star rating from the federal government. CMS - the federal agency that oversees the Medicare and Medicaid programs - posted the star ratings to its Hospital Compare consumer website on Wednesday to make it easier for people to compare hospital quality. Hospitals received ratings of one to five stars – with five stars being the highest score – based on how well they perform on a range of inpatient and outpatient quality measures. [2]

2021: SMHCopywriter Requesting Edits edit
Full disclosure: As my username would suggest, I am a copywriter with Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
There's a desire within the office to build up the Wikipedia page for Sarasota Memorial Hospital, as we do believe that its regional prominence and sizable expansions over the last decade or so are worth mentioning, and the existing description is inadequate for what the hospital is now.
That being said, I understand that it's verboten to edit one's own page, so I'm hoping to make the request here and have it approved by another editor. I also understand that previous SMH employees have attempted to edit or add to the page on their own, using superlatives and advertising language, which is not appropriate for the site. I'm explicitly not taking that approach.
As a new employee, I was hoping that the best way to go about this would be to participate in the online community in good faith, by editing/expanding unrelated articles and being of some benefit to the project, while requesting updates to the SMH page from an unbiased editor.
I have the copy written up in encyclopedia-appropriate language and sourced with multiple references.
Any direction would be appreciated.
