Sarah Lee is also a recording artist on the Righteous Babe Records label.

That's Sarah with an H - not this article. - DavidWBrooks 01:03, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Whoops - I take that back; no H. The anon above misspelled it. I'll put in a note - DavidWBrooks 01:04, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Merge

I don't think a separate article for Sara Lee brands is needed, especially since this one isn't all that big. --D-Day My fan mail. Click to view my evil userboxes 15:44, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

I agree - they need to be merged. mrh 15:21, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
They should have the Annual Income
I agree in principle they should be merged. But, I would suggest we leave it for a while as both the history of Sara Lee and the list of brands are both incomplete. Plus, the new CEO has a strategy which involves selling/buying - so we would be changing the article regularly. Rgds, - Trident13 15:18, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

I agree they should be merged. See also Unilever#Brands--160.92.7.69 18:19, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

I agree. They should merge.

Slogan

I could have sworn the slogan was "Nobody Does It Like Sara Lee" until a few years ago when they changed it to sound less dirty. I guess not though, the company page says it has been the slogan since 1968. 216.242.114.115 19:39, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

  • It is hard to hear but the slogan is "nobody doesn't like", which being a double negative would translate to "everybody likes". I also at one time thought the slogan was "does it like" but that is incorrect. Dwp49423 19:49, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Current Event

Why does this article (still) constitute a current event? I suggest this tag and respective categorization be removed. -Etafly 04:37, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Seeing as how this talk page is fairly inactive, I've decided to be bold. -Etafly 04:45, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Sara Lee logo.JPG

Image:Sara Lee logo.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:20, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Article intro

Is it jsut me, or does the introduction to this article read as though a previous edit accidentally deleted a portion in such a way that two paragraphs run together, with the result making little sense? As far as I can tell, it appears that it was attempting to summarize the company history, but it jumps mid-sentence from the earliest days, to the merger with the Consolidated foods to the 2006 reorganization, all in one sentence. It just ses like there was some accidental removal of material that wasn't properly restored. I'd try to fix it myself, but I know next to nothing about the corporation (that's why I came to the article in the first place.) oknazevad (talk) 20:32, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

History before 1986

The history section doesn't go back any further than 1986. The section should be expanded since the brand has been around since at least the 50s. ask123 (talk) 18:28, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Indeed. This article used to have a great history section, which happened to have been copied and pasted in its entirety from elsewhere. That section having been removed is why the article is so fragmented right now.

I can remember the company owning Hanes (now HanesBrands) way back in 1987 and this isn't even mentioned. I don't quite know how to get this information. The Winston-Salem Journal online archives wouldn't go back that far, though some early history might be in a later article. Surely when Sara Lee sold this company, the newspaper told how it came to be part of Sara Lee.Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 20:36, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
I did a google search with the words "sara lee" in quotation marks and the year "1985" separately next to it and got some reliable sources of early company history in the first few hits. Unfortunately, I have no time to edit properly . Maybe someone can "pick up the ball and run with it". 68.37.34.154 (talk) 07:42, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Where did the name come from?

Where did the name "Sara Lee" come from? Was it the name of a pretty girl? Angie Y. 12:36, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Sara Lee is a real person, but was only a girl when the company was founded. She is still alive, although I don't think she has any involvement with the running of the company. Presumably she would have a legal right to get involved though? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.212.134.207 (talk) 21:41, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
I can't help but notice how frequently it seems that company founders name the company, or a significant product, after their daughter. Charles Lubin named his bakery chain after his daughter Sara Lee, Dave Thomas named his hamburger restaurant chain after his daughter Wendy, and Steve Jobs named a computer model after his daughter Lisa. Captain Quirk (talk) 03:40, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Here is some pertinent information from http://www.saraleebread.com/story-of-sara-lee [retrieved 2014-08-07]:—

The Story of Sara Lee

Sara Lee was 8 years old when her father, bakery entrepreneur Charles Lubin, decided to name his new line of cheesecakes after her. Consolidated Foods purchased the business in 1956, and Mr. Lubin continued to serve as a senior executive. In 1985, Consolidated Foods changed its name to Sara Lee Corporation.

Over the years, the corporation diversified to encompass a wide range of food and beverage products. In 2001, Sara Lee expanded beyond sweet baked goods into fresh bread products, when it acquired The EarthGrains Company and a major European bakery company. In 2011, Sara Lee's fresh bread product became a part of Bimbo Bakeries USA.

Although the original Sara Lee has never had a management role in the company, she has appeared in some television advertisements for the bakery products that bear her name. In her words, her father told her the product "had to be perfect because he was naming it after me."

Today Sara Lee is a philanthropist who supports the education and advancement of women and girls in science. The bread named after her continues to nourish our customers and delight their taste buds.

According the article, Sara Lee Corporation, "She was born in 1941, and now goes by her married name, Sara Lee Schupf." [Source in article: Charles W. Lubin's obituary, 17 July 1988.] The name, Sara Lee, is a registered trademark of Sara Lee TM Holdings LLC, and currently is used under license by EarthGrains Baking Companies, Inc. (and probably by other Bimbo Bakeries USA companies). PlaysInPeoria (talk) 18:53, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
