This is missing the word sap in the sense of a small weapon sometimes used by police. Encased in leather with a weight at the business end. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.191.147.226 (talk) 12:37, 11 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Is there an article on this? If not, there's your answer why it's not on the list. --Muhandes (talk) 17:08, 12 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think that would be the Slapjack_(weapon). --Cyberman TM (talk) 19:58, 27 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Baton (law enforcement) was added some time ago. It seems like a better target. --Muhandes (talk) 19:57, 28 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

CAPITALIZED SAP versus Title Case Sap disambiguation edit

Today, I made the same error several others before me made (look at the main page edit history). I added a link to a page for one of the acronymic meanings of SAP, which I then had to revert a couple of minutes later when I realized there was a separate page for S.A.P. meanings.

I'm sure there are other examples of acronyms that replicate real words. However, when I looked at the disambiguation page, it was not readily apparent that I should be looking for two separate disambiguation pages.

What would be an appropriate way to highlight this to the casual viewer? Merge both pages into one (capitalized acronym, and regular word)? Or draw attention to the other page near the top (on both pages)? Has this issue been addressed before elsewhere? I would lean towards merging the pages, but making one section at the top for real words, followed by an acronym section below. Al'Beroya (talk) 20:51, 5 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal edit

As already pointed out in the above comment from August 2013, the two separate disambiguation pages for SAP and Sap (disambiguation) create confusion and would better serve users if merged into a single dab page. Most dab pages, such as Sam (to which SAM redirects) combine acronyms with standard terms. The merger proposal would merge the acronym-based dab page SAP into the Sap (disambiguation) page. Anyone researching the plant fluid would go directly to Sap and anyone typing SAP would be redirected to the Sap (disambiguation) page.    Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 21:20, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Weak oppose It wouldn't be terrible for them to be combined and that is the more common arrangement, but I actually like the separation here, especially due to how long the SAP page is. To address the concern above, I think a hat note could be a good alternative. -- Fyrael (talk) 06:26, 6 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Both DAB pages are relatively large. A combined one would be very difficult to navigate. Wikipedia:IFITAINTBROKE. Narky Blert (talk) 17:28, 30 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • 'CAKE (Combine And Keep Expections) - have the top of the combined page use internal links
(these are actually standard links; they'd be changed to intenal links if the idea sells)

The Computing list is nine items, and so is the above list.

After eating my cake (by merging it all into "(disambiguation)" I could still have it (the flutterby of butterfly) by making a WikiLink for SAP to point to the softare whose article is named SAP ERP - it's what businesses mean when they say they're "going SAP."
Please note that the latter (the WikiLink idea) is a separate suggestion. Pi314m (talk) 16:52, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
